Vandell Andrade begins her first season as an assistant women's basketball coach at Rhode Island College. She assists Head Coach Jenna Cosgrove with all phases of the RIC women’s basketball program including recruiting, scouting, administering practice and game coaching.

Andrade comes to RIC after spending last season playing professionally with A.D. Kemegal Cortegada in the Spanish League, where she was named the Import Player of the Year. Andrade played for two years at RIC before transferring to LeMoyne where she graduated from in 2016 with a degree in criminology. At LeMoyne, she received a Defensive Player of the Year Award and was an Honorable Mention All-American selection as a senior in 2015-16.

The Providence native, who was recently named to RIC’s All-40th Anniversary of Women’s Athletics Women’s Basketball Team, has several years of experience as a coach at basketball camps throughout New England.

“I am very excited to add Vandell to my staff,” Cosgrove said. “She was an excellent player during her collegiate career and most recently her in her professional career in Spain.  During her two seasons at Rhode Island College, she helped establish a tradition of success at RIC with a LEC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. She will be a great asset to our program and I am excited for her to work with our players.”

As a sophomore in 2013-14, Andrade was named the Little East Conference Player of the Year, the LEC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Little East and earned a spot on the league’s All-Defensive Team. She was just the second player in conference history to earn Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same campaign. She was also just the second Anchorwoman in the program’s history to win the prestigious Player of the Year Award and the first since Claudia DeFaria in 1995. She was named First Team All-ECAC and Second Team All-Region by the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA). Furthermore, she received the Kevin McNamara Div. III Women’s Player of the Year award at the annual Cox Sports Rhode Island Basketball Media Awards Luncheon, signifying her as the top female Div. III women’s basketball player in the state.

As a freshman in 2012-13, she was named to the All-Rookie Team in her first season with the Anchorwomen.
