Rhode Island College Baseball Update #1

(9-4 Overall; 0-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenierís team is off to the programís best start since the 1986 campaign. RIC returned home from its Spring Break trip to the Homestead (FL) Challenge with a 5-4 record. The Anchormen proceeded to earn wins over Coast Guard, 4-3, on Mar. 18, Salve Regina, 7-3, on Mar. 20 and swept a doubleheader from Clark, 6-3, 13-7, on Mar. 22. The Anchormen are currently 9-4 overall and have yet to see action in the Little East Conference.

 

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .435 with 20 runs, 20 hits and three RBI. As a pitcher, he has appeared in two games, starting both of them. He is 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 15.0 innings.

 

Junior first baseman Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .365 with 13 runs, 19 hits, two doubles, one triple, three home runs and 17 RBI.

 

Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .356 with 11 runs, 16 hits, four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI. As a pitcher, he has appeared in three games, starting two of them. He is 2-1 with a 3.93 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 18.1 innings.

 

Freshman outfielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .304 with 11 runs, 14 hits, three doubles, one triple and 12 RBI.

 

Freshman infielder Adolfo Perez (Miami, FL) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .286 with 12 runs, 16 hits, six doubles, one home run and eight RBI.

 

Junior pitcher John Botelho (Tiverton, RI) has appeared in four games, starting three of them. He is 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 25.0 innings.

 

Freshman infielder Ray De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is batting .282 with ten runs, 11 hits, five doubles, one triple and four RBI.

 

Senior pitcher Dan Furtado (East Providence, RI) has appeared in two games, starting one of them. He is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, one save and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

 

Senior infielder Brian Peer (Windsor, CT) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .275 with five runs, 11 hits, two doubles and seven RBI.

 

Sophomore infielder Mike Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in three games, starting both of them. He is batting .250 with two hits, one double and two RBI.

 

Junior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in three games, starting all of them. He is batting .500 with three runs, four hits, one triple and three RBI.

 

Sophomore pitcher Brian Baker (Newport, RI) has appeared in one game. He is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 2.0 innings.

 

Freshman pitcher Jason DeCesare (North Providence, RI) has appeared in two games. He is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA, one save and two strikeouts in 4.0 innings.

 

Sophomore pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in two games, starting both of them. He is 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA and ten strikeouts in 11.1 innings.

 

Sophomore pitcher Alex Crotteau (Portsmouth, RI) has appeared in three games, starting all of them. He is 1-0 with a 5.06 ERA and seven strikeouts in 16.0 innings.

 

Freshman pitcher Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in four games. He is 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA and three strikeouts in 4.0 innings.

 

Freshman outfielder Evan Aten (Middletown, RI) has played in 11 games, starting nine of them. He is batting .176 with six hits, two doubles and five RBI.

 

Sophomore catcher Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .174 with two runs, four hits and five RBI.

 

Sophomore catcher/infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He is batting .167 with four runs, four hits and four RBI.

 

Freshman shortstop Nate Hood (Attleboro, MA) has played in two games. He has scored one run and has one RBI.

 

Freshman pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in two games. He is 0-0 with a 22.50 ERA and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Roger Williams this afternoon, Framingham State tomorrow, Worcester State on Thursday and Keene State on Saturday.
