Rhode Island College Baseball Update #2

(10-7-1 Overall; 1-1 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenierís team is currently 10-7-1 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference. RIC tied Roger Williams 13-13 on Mar. 25, and dropped non-conference games to Framingham State and Worcester State, 17-2 and 12-10 on Mar. 26 and Mar. 27 respectively. The Anchormen opened conference play vs. Keene State, by splitting a doubleheader on Mar. 29. RIC dropped the first game 10-2, before using a six-run eighth inning to take the nightcap, 8-6.

 

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .435 with 20 runs, 20 hits, three RBI and seven stolen bases. As a pitcher, he has appeared in three games, starting two of them. He is 1-1 with a 5.24 ERA, two complete games and 19 strikeouts in 22.1 innings.

 

Junior first baseman Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .391 with 19 runs, 27 hits, five doubles, two triples, five home runs 26 RBI and one stolen base.

 

Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .377 with 14 runs, 23 hits, four doubles, two triples and 15 RBI. As a pitcher, he has appeared in four games, starting three of them. He is 2-1 with a 4.38 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 24.2 innings.

 

Freshman outfielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) has played in 18 games, starting all of them. He is batting .266 with 14 runs, 17 hits, three doubles, one triple, 14 RBI, and five stolen bases.

 

Freshman infielder Adolfo Perez (Miami, FL) has played in 18 games, starting all of them. He is batting .250 with 18 runs, 19 hits, eight doubles, one home run, nine RBI and two stolen bases.

 

Junior pitcher John Botelho (Tiverton, RI) has appeared in six games, starting three of them. He is 2-2 with a 2.90 ERA, two complete games and 28 strikeouts in 31.0 innings.

 

Freshman infielder Ray De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 17 games, starting 16 of them. He is batting .254 with 15 runs, 15 hits, six doubles, one triple, five RBI, and four stolen bases.

 

Senior pitcher Dan Furtado (East Providence, RI) has appeared in four games, starting one of them. He is 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA, one save and ten strikeouts in 10.0 innings.

 

Senior infielder Brian Peer (Windsor, CT) has played in 15 games, starting 13 of them. He is batting .271 with eight runs, 13 hits, three doubles and eight RBI.

 

Sophomore infielder Mike Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in six games, starting five of them. He is batting .235 with four hits, one double and three RBI.

 

Junior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in three games, starting all of them. He is batting .500 with three runs, four hits, one triple and three RBI. Higgins is currently out of the lineup with an injured ankle.

 

Sophomore pitcher Brian Baker (Newport, RI) has appeared in one game. He is 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA in 8.0 innings.

 

Freshman pitcher Jason DeCesare (North Providence, RI) has appeared in three games. He is 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA, one save and six strikeouts in 7.0 innings.

 

Sophomore pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in four games, starting three of them. He is 2-1 with a 6.00 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 18.0 innings.

 

Sophomore pitcher Alex Crotteau (Portsmouth, RI) has appeared in four games, starting all of them. He is 1-1 with a 6.50 ERA and seven strikeouts in 18.0 innings.

 

Freshman pitcher Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in five games. He is 1-0 with a 9.53 ERA and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

 

Freshman outfielder Evan Aten (Middletown, RI) has played in 13 games, starting 11 of them. He is batting .171 with one run, seven hits, two doubles and six RBI.

 

Sophomore catcher Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .214 with four runs, nine hits and seven RBI.

 

Sophomore catcher Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in 11 games, starting ten of them. He is batting .171 with five runs, six hits and six RBI.

 

Freshman shortstop Nate Hood (Attleboro, MA) has played in two games. He has scored one run and has one RBI.

 

Freshman pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in two games. He is 0-0 with a 22.50 ERA and two strikeouts in 2.0 innings.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Anna Maria this afternoon, play at Salem State on Apr. 3 and at Southern Maine on Apr. 5.
