Rhode Island College Fall Sports Update #1

Men’s Soccer
(0-2-0 Overall, 0-0-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RI—Head Coach Len Mercurio’s team is 0-2 overall and has yet to see action in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen dropped the first two games of the 2002 campaign, falling 3-2 at New Paltz on Sept. 7 and losing 3-2 at Vassar on Sept. 8. Both contests were part of the Mid-Hudson Classic.

Freshman forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them. He leads the team in scoring with two goals and one assist for five points. Teixeira scored a goal in each of this past weekend’s games and added an assist against New Paltz.

Freshman forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in two games, starting one of them. Lopes scored his first collegiate goal in this past weekend’s game against Vassar.

Sophomore midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in two games, starting one of them. He scored a goal on his only shot against New Paltz.

Junior Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them. He assisted on a goal in this weekend’s contest against New Paltz.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them. He has totaled five saves and compiled a goals against average of 3.00.

Freshman defender Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in two games, starting both of them. Sophomore sweeper Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them.

Freshman defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in two games starting both of them.

Junior stopper Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them. Freshman defender Joe Mackinnon (West Greenwich, RI) has played in two games, starting one of them.

Sophomore midfielder Tim Calouro (East Providence, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them. Freshman Daniel Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played and started in one game.

Junior stopper Paul Sousa (East Providence, RI) has played in two games. Freshman forward Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in two games, starting one of them.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Rivier on Sept. 11 and play at Newbury on Sept. 14.
