Rhode Island College Names Carl Sabo
Assistant Womenís Basketball Coach


Providence, RIóRhode Island College named Carl Sabo as an Assistant Womenís Basketball Coach. Sabo will assist Head Coach Mike Kelley with all phases of the RIC womenís basketball program.


"I am looking forward to working at the collegiate level," Sabo says. "I think there is a great opportunity for success at Rhode Island College. I canít wait to get started."


Saboís coaching career has spanned four decades, having been a coach for over 25 years. He was formerly the Head Boysí Varsity Basketball Coach at Ursuline Academy in Springfield, Illinois from 1996-99. He was the Girlsí Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach at Springfield (IL) High School from 1994-96 under Dave Urish.


He was the principal of St. Maryís Elementary School in New Berlin (IL) from 1994-97. He was the Director of College Advancement at Springfield College (IL) prior to taking the principalís position at Ursuline Academy in July of 1999.


He earned a bachelorís degree in elementary education from Illinois Benedictine College in 1977. He attended Springfield College (IL) from 1973-75. During his career at both institutions, he played football, basketball and baseball. He amassed over 1,375 career points in his collegiate basketball career.


Sabo recently relocated to the area from Illinois and currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts with his wife Fran. They have three children and one grandchild.
