Rhode Island College Menís Soccer Update #2

(2-2-0 Overall, 0-0-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RIóHead Coach Len Mercurioís team is 2-2 overall and has yet to see action in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen breezed past their two opponents last week, winning 4-0 vs. Rivier College and 8-0 at Newbury College.

Freshman forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in three games, starting all of them. He leads the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for a total of 15 points. Teixeira scored four goals and added an assist in RICís victory over Newbury. For his efforts, he was named the Little East Conferenceís Rookie of the Week.

Freshman forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in four games, starting three of them. Lopes scored the game-winning goal vs. Rivier College. He has four goals for eight points on the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in four games, starting all of them. He has totaled nine saves and compiled a goals against average of 1.50. He recorded consecutive shutouts against Rivier and Newbury, the first ones of his career.

Sophomore midfielder Tim Calouro (East Providence, RI) has played in four games, starting three of them. Calouro has totaled six points on two goals and two assists.

Freshman forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in three games, starting one of them. Childs has three points on one goal and one assist.

Sophomore sweeper Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in four games, starting two of them. Edouard has three points on a goal and an assist.

Sophomore midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in four games, starting two of them. He has a goal and an assist for a total of three points.

Junior midfielder Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in four games, starting four of them. He has one assist on the season for one point.

Freshman defender Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in four games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point on the season.

Freshman midfielder Daniel Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them. He has one assist for one point on the season.

Freshman defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in four games starting all of them. Junior stopper Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in four games, starting all of them.

Freshman defender Joe Mackinnon (West Greenwich, RI) has played in four games, starting one of them. Mackinnon leads the team with ten shots. Freshman forward Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in four games, starting three of them.

Junior stopper Paul Sousa (East Providence, RI) has played in three games, starting one of them. Junior midfielder Jorge Pemberthy (Providence, RI) has played in two games, starting both of them.

Freshman midfielder Giovanni Carmona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in one game. Freshman defender Jeff Monica (North Kingstown, RI) has played in one game. Freshman defender Ryan Murphy (Somerset, MA) has played in two games. Junior midfielder Johan Calderon (Pawtucket, RI) has played in one game.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Johnson & Wales on Sept. 17, play at Connecticut College on Sept. 19 and host MIT on Sept. 21.
