Fanelli & Warrington Help RIC Split With Plymouth State

 

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College blanked Plymouth State College, 9-0, in the second game of a doubleheader in collegiate softball action, improving to 17-9-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the Little East Conference. The Panthers took game one 5-3, ending the day with an 18-5 overall mark and a 4-4 record in the LEC.

 

RIC pitcher Kim Warrington was the hard luck loser in game one, allowing no earned runs and striking out four. She picked up her 12th win of the season (12-6) with a five-hit, four strikeout, shutout in game two. First baseman Michele Fanelli went 6-7 with three doubles and a run on the day. Left fielder Casey Soares went 2-3 with four RBI, including a three-run triple in the nightcap. Designated player Ashley Brooks went 5-6 with two RBI and two runs on the day.

 

The Panthers took game one, led by outfielder Maria Curran’s 2-4, one RBI and two-run effort. Pitcher Kim Jeffs improved to 16-3 with the game one victory, striking out six. Jeffs was called upon to relieve starter Rose Eaton, who took the loss in game two, in the third inning.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Apr. 22.
