Menís Soccer Update #3

(5-2-0 Overall, 0-0-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RIóHead Coach Len Mercurioís team is 5-2 overall and has yet to see action in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen won all three contests last week, defeating Johnson & Wales 2-1 (2 OT), Connecticut College 1-0, and MIT 3-2. The Anchormen have won five straight after dropping their first two matches of the season.

Freshman forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in six games, starting all of them. He leads the team in scoring with nine goals and four assists for a total of 22 points. Teixeira scored the lone goal in the victory over Connecticut College and added two goals, including the game-winner vs. MIT, earning LEC Player of the Week kudos. This is the second consecutive week Teixeira has been honored by the LEC, after earning Rookie of the Week honors previously.

Freshman forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in seven games, starting six of them. Lopes has five goals for ten points on the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He has totaled 30 saves and compiled a goals against average of 1.25 and a .769 save percentage. He registered his third shutout of the season in the win over Connecticut College.

Sophomore midfielder Tim Calouro (East Providence, RI) has played in seven games, starting three of them. Calouro has totaled six points on two goals and two assists.

Freshman forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in four games, starting one of them. Childs has three points on one goal and one assist.

Sophomore sweeper Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting three of them. Edouard has three points on a goal and an assist.

Sophomore midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in five games, starting two of them. He has a goal and an assist for a total of three points.

Freshman midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in three games. He has one goal and one assist for three points on the season.

Junior stopper Paul Sousa (East Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. He has two assists on the season for two points.

Junior midfielder Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He has one assist on the season for one point.

Freshman defender Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point on the season.

Freshman midfielder Daniel Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in five games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point on the season.

Freshman defender Joe Mackinnon (West Greenwich, RI) has played in six games, starting one of them. Mackinnon has one goal for two points on the season. He scored the game-winning goal vs. Johnson & Wales in double-overtime.

Freshman defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in seven games, starting six of them. Junior stopper Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in four games, starting all of them.

Freshman forward Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He has one goal for two points on the season.

Junior midfielder Jorge Pemberthy (Providence, RI) has played in five games, starting four of them.

Freshman midfielder Giovanni Carmona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in two games. Freshman defender Jeff Monica (North Kingstown, RI) has played in five games, starting four of them. Freshman defender Ryan Murphy (Somerset, MA) has played in two games.

Junior midfielder Johan Calderon (Pawtucket, RI) has played in one game.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Salve Regina on Sept. 24, play at Salem State on Sept. 26 and host Southern Maine on Sept. 28.
