Rhode Island College Menís Soccer Update #4

(8-2-0 Overall, 1-0-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RIóHead Coach Len Mercurioís team is 8-2 overall and is 1-0 in Little East Conference play. The Anchormen won all three games last week, and are currently riding an eight game-win streak. RIC notched victories over Salve Regina (2-1 OT), Salem State (2-0), and Southern Maine (5-1). The Anchormenís eight consecutive wins is a new RIC record for a single season.

Freshman forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He leads the team in scoring with 12 goals and four assists for a total of 28 points. Teixeira scored game-winning goals in the victories over Salem State and Southern Maine. Teixeira was named the LECís Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. He currently leads the conference in scoring.

Freshman forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. Lopes has eight goals and one assist for a total of 17 points on the season. Lopes scored two goals in the victory over Southern Maine and netted the game-winner during golden goal time in the victory over Salve Regina. Lopes was named the LEC Rookie of the Week and is second in the conference in scoring.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He has totaled 49 saves and compiled a goals against average of 1.07 and a .816 save percentage. He recorded his fourth shutout of the season in the win over Salem State.

Sophomore midfielder Tim Calouro (East Providence, RI) has played in ten games, starting three of them. Calouro has totaled eight points on three goals and two assists.

Freshman midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting one of them. He has two goals and one assist for five points on the season.

Sophomore stopper Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in nine games, starting six of them. Edouard has three points on a goal and an assist.

Sophomore midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in six games, starting two of them. He has five points on two goals and an assist.

Freshman forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in six games, starting one of them. Childs has four points on one goal and two assists.

Junior defender Paul Sousa (East Providence, RI) has played in nine games, starting seven of them. He has three assists on the season for three points.

Junior sweeper Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He has three assists on the season for three points. Schimmel assisted on the game-winning goal in the victory over Salve Regina.

Freshman midfielder Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He has three assists for three points on the season.

Freshman midfielder Daniel Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point on the season.

Freshman midfielder Joe Mackinnon (West Greenwich, RI) has played in ten games, starting six of them. Mackinnon has one goal for two points on the season.

Freshman defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in ten games, starting six of them. Junior stopper Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in five games, starting four of them.

Freshman midfielder Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He has one goal for two points on the season.

Junior midfielder Jorge Pemberthy (Providence, RI) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. Pemberthy has a goal and two assists for a total of four points on the season.

Freshman defender Jeff Monica (North Kingstown, RI) has played in eight games, starting seven of them.

Freshman defender Ryan Murphy (Somerset, MA) has played in three games.

Junior midfielder Johan Calderon (Pawtucket, RI) has played in four games, starting one of them.

Sophomore midfielder Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in seven games.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Worcester State on Oct. 2 and play at UMass-Boston on Oct. 5.
