Rhode Island College Baseball Update #5

(15-15-1 Overall; 2-7 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier’s team is currently 15-15-1 overall and 2-7 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen fell to Salem State, 9-8, on Apr. 23, 2-1 to regional power Wheaton on Apr. 24, fell to Plymouth State, 5-4 (five innings), on Apr. 26 and split a doubleheader with Southern Maine, falling 8-2 and winning 7-1 on Apr. 27.

 

Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 29 games, starting all of them. He is batting .361 with 40 runs, 44 hits, one double, three triples, four home runs, 23 RBI and nine stolen bases. As a pitcher, he has appeared in five games, starting all of them. He is 1-2 with a 5.61 ERA, two complete games and 24 strikeouts in 33.2 innings.

 

Junior first baseman Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in 31 games, starting all of them. He is batting .358 with 34 runs, 44 hits, eight doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 40 RBI, and one stolen base.

 

Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 31 games, starting all of them. He is batting .368 with 22 runs, 42 hits, six doubles, two triples, one home run and 29 RBI. As a pitcher, he has appeared in eight games, starting five of them. He is 4-2 with a 3.00 ERA, two complete games and 27 strikeouts in 45.0 innings.

 

Freshman outfielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) has played in 31 games, starting all of them. He is batting .254 with 24 runs, 29 hits, seven doubles, one triple, 17 RBI, and six stolen bases.

 

Freshman shortstop Adolfo Perez (Miami, FL) has played in 29 games, starting all of them. He is batting .259 with 26 runs, 30 hits, 11 doubles, one home run, 14 RBI and three stolen bases.

 

Junior pitcher John Botelho (Tiverton, RI) has appeared in nine games, starting six of them. He is 2-4 with a 4.38 ERA, two complete games and 36 strikeouts in 37.0 innings.

 

Freshman infielder Ray De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 30 games, starting 28 of them. He is batting .234 with 23 runs, 26 hits, seven doubles, one triple, eight RBI, and five stolen bases.

 

Senior pitcher Dan Furtado (East Providence, RI) has appeared in nine games, starting one of them. He is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA, two saves and 15 strikeouts in 22.0 innings.

 

Senior third baseman Brian Peer (Windsor, CT) has played in 27 games, starting 25 of them. He is batting .276 with 15 runs, 24 hits, six doubles, one home run and 15 RBI.

 

Sophomore infielder Mike Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in 11 games, starting eight of them. He is batting .241 with two runs, seven hits, one double and seven RBI.

 

Sophomore pitcher Brian Baker (Newport, RI) has appeared in eight games, starting one of them. He is 0-3 with a 3.47 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.

 

Freshman pitcher Jason DeCesare (North Providence, RI) has appeared in five games, starting two of them. He is 0-0 with a 6.46 ERA, one save and 14 strikeouts in 15.1 innings.

 

Sophomore pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in seven games, starting six of them. He is 3-3 with a 6.35 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 34.0 innings.

 

Sophomore pitcher Alex Crotteau (Portsmouth, RI) has appeared in six games, starting five of them. He is 1-1 with a 7.77 ERA and ten strikeouts in 22.0 innings.

 

Freshman pitcher Brian Farley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in seven games. He is 2-0 with a 12.19 ERA and six strikeouts in 10.1 innings.

 

Sophomore catcher Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 25 games, starting all of them. He is batting .235 with 15 runs, 20 hits, two doubles, 11 RBI and four stolen bases.

 

Freshman outfielder Evan Aten (Middletown, RI) has played in 23 games, starting 19 of them. He is batting .143 with three runs, nine hits, three doubles and six RBI.

 

Sophomore catcher/infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in 19 games, starting 17 of them. He is batting .242 with 12 runs, 15 hits, one double and ten RBI.

 

Freshman pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) has appeared in six games. He is 1-0 with an 8.18 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 11.0 innings.

 

Junior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in three games, starting all of them. He is batting .500 with three runs, four hits, one triple and three RBI. Higgins injured his ankle during the club’s trip to Florida and is out indefinitely.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Becker on Apr. 29, Johnson & Wales on May 1 and UMass-Boston May 3.
