Rhode Island College Menís Soccer Update #5

(9-3-0 Overall, 2-0-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RIóHead Coach Len Mercurioís team is 9-3 overall and is 2-0 in Little East Conference play. The Anchormen saw their eight-game winning streak fall last week in a 1-0 loss to Worcester State on Oct. 2. RIC rebounded to down UMass-Boston 2-1 on Oct. 5 to remain undefeated in LEC play.

Freshman forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He leads the team in scoring with 13 goals and four assists for a total of 30 points. Teixeira continues to lead the Little East Conference in scoring.

Freshman forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. Lopes has nine goals and one assist for a total of 19 points on the season. Lopes scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory over UMass-Boston. He is second in the LEC in scoring.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in 12 games, starting all of them. He has totaled 56 saves and compiled a goals against average of 1.06 and a .811 save percentage. Nelson has led the team to four shutouts on the season.

Sophomore midfielder Tim Calouro (East Providence, RI) has played in 12 games, starting three of them. Calouro has totaled eight points on three goals and two assists.

Freshman midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in eight games, starting one of them. He has two goals and one assist for five points on the season.

Sophomore stopper Alain Edouard (Providence, RI) has played in 11 games, starting eight of them. Edouard has three points on a goal and an assist.

Sophomore midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in eight games, starting two of them. He has four points on one goal and two assists.

Freshman forward Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) has played in seven games, starting one of them. Childs has four points on one goal and two assists.

Junior defender Paul Sousa (East Providence, RI) has played in 11 games, starting nine of them. He has three assists on the season for three points.

Junior sweeper Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in 12 games, starting all of them. He has three assists on the season for three points.

Freshman midfielder Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He has three assists for three points on the season.

Freshman midfielder Daniel Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point on the season.

Freshman midfielder Joe Mackinnon (West Greenwich, RI) has played in 11 games, starting one of them. Mackinnon has one goal for two points on the season.

Freshman defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in 11 games, starting six of them. Junior stopper Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in six games, starting five of them.

Freshman midfielder Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He has one goal for two points on the season.

Junior midfielder Jorge Pemberthy (Providence, RI) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. Pemberthy has a goal and three assists for a total of five points on the season.

Freshman defender Jeff Monica (North Kingstown, RI) has played in nine games, starting eight of them.

Freshman defender Ryan Murphy (Somerset, MA) has played in three games.

Junior midfielder Johan Calderon (Pawtucket, RI) has played in four games, starting one of them.

Sophomore midfielder Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in nine games.

In upcoming action, RIC play at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 12.
