RICís Matt Brannon Earns Cardiís Furniture Fall Baseball Classic
MVP Honors


Providence, RIóRhode Island College sophomore pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) was named the Most Valuable Player of the Cardiís Furniture Fall Baseball Classic.


Brannon earned a save in RICís 6-5 first round win over Salve Regina on Oct. 9, pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He came back to earn a save against CCRI, pitching 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, in RICís 9-7 semi-final victory over the Knights on Oct. 14.


He started and threw seven innings, earning a no decision, in RICís 5-4 loss to Bryant College in the championship game on Oct. 14.


As a freshman in 2002, he appeared in 12 games, starting seven of them. He was 2-4 with a 4.53 ERA, two complete games and 48 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched. Brannon led the team in innings pitched and strikeouts, was second in wins and third in ERA. As a hitter, he played in 21 games, starting 17 of them. He batted .233 with eight runs, 17 hits, five doubles, nine RBI and one stolen base. He owned a .301 slugging percentage, a .305 on-base percentage and a .960 fielding percentage.


He is a physical education major and a 2001 graduate of Cranston High School West.
