2002 Womenís Volleyball Season Summary

13-16 Overall, 3-4 (fifth place) in the Little East Conference

Head Coach Craig Letourneauís team finished the season with a 13-16 overall record and a 3-4 (fifth place) mark in the Little East Conference. RIC improved upon last seasonís 11-21 mark while setting new team records in kills (1,058), assists (902) and service aces (278). RIC qualified for the 2002 Little East Tournament where they were eliminated with a 3-0 loss at Keene State on Nov. 6.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Callaghan (Warwick, RI) leaves RIC having played in 363 games in 114 matches. She totaled 1,510 attempts, 414 kills, a .174 hitting percentage, 469 digs, 63 assists, 56 blocks and 56 service aces. Her 414 kills ranks her 12th all-time in RIC history. Callaghan was third on the team in hitting percentage, fifth in kills and fourth in digs.

As a senior in 2002, she played in 92 games in 26 matches. She had 103 kills (1.120/game), a .201 hitting percentage, 11 assists (0.120/game), 22 service aces (0.239/game), 150 digs (1.630/game), and 16 blocks (0.174/game). She was named to the RIC Invitational All-Tournament team.

As a junior in 2001, she played in 112 games in 31 matches. She had 163 kills (1.455/game), a .200 hitting percentage, 20 assists (0.179/game), 25 service aces (0.223/game), 221 digs (1.973/game) and 13 blocks (0.116/game). Callaghan was second on the team in digs and third in kills. Callaghan was fourth on the team in hitting percentage and fifth in service aces.

As a sophomore in 2000, she played in 75 games in 23 matches. She totaled 114 kills (1.520/game), a .183 hitting percentage, 14 assists (0.187/game), eight service aces (0.107/game), 69 digs (0.920/game) and five blocks (0.067/game).

As a freshman in 1999, she played in 88 games in 34 matches. She had 34 kills (0.386/game), 18 assists (0.205/game), one service ace (0.011/game), 19 digs (0.216/game) and 22 total blocks (0.250/game).

She is an elementary education major and a 1999 graduate of Pilgrim High School.

Junior outside hitter Keynalee Ayala (Providence, RI) played in 26 games in 13 matches. She had no kills (0.000/game), a -.200 hitting percentage, no assists (0.000/game), no service aces (0.000/game), 22 digs (0.846/game), and no blocks (0.000/game).

Junior outside hitter Lauriza Monegro (Warwick, RI) played in 51 games in 20 matches. She had 57 kills (1.118/game), a .107 hitting percentage, no assists (0.000/game), five service aces (0.100/game), 18 digs (0.360/game), and four blocks (0.080/game).

Junior setter Jillian Krebs (Warwick, RI) played in 102 games in 29 matches. She had 127 kills (1.245/game), a .177 hitting percentage, 384 assists (3.788/game), 28 service aces (0.275/game), 220 digs (2.157/game), and 42 blocks (0.412/game). She was named MVP of the RIC Invitational. Krebs was second on the club in assists and digs and was fourth in kills

Sophomore outside hitter Kristen Bibeault (Woonsocket, RI) played in 17 games in 12 matches. She had nine kills (0.529/game), a - .162 hitting percentage, no assists (0.000/game), three service aces (0.176/game), eight digs (0.471/game), and no blocks (0.000/game).

Sophomore defender Kate Darash (Port Chester, NY) played in 11 games in eight matches. She had no kills (0.000/game), a .000 hitting percentage, no assists (0.000/game), no service aces (0.000/game), 12 digs (1.091/game), and no blocks (0.000/game).

Sophomore right side hitter Kate Dolan (North Kingstown, RI) played in seven games in seven matches. She had four kills (0.571/game), a .571 hitting percentage, one assist (0.143/game), no service aces (0.000/game), one dig (0.143/game), and six blocks (0.857/game).

Sophomore libero Tracy Lopes (Warren, RI) played in 99 games in 29 matches. She had eight kills (0.081/game), a -.159 hitting percentage, one assist (0.010/game), one service ace (0.010/game), 231 digs (2.333/game), and no blocks (0.000/game). Lopes led the team in digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Erica Poirier (Woonsocket, RI) played in 100 games in 29 matches. She had 150 kills (1.500/game), a .144 hitting percentage, one assist (0.010/game), 37 service aces (0.370/game), 44 digs (0.440/game), and 141 blocks (1.410/game). Poirier led the team in blocks and was third in kills.

Sophomore outside hitter Amanda Yanski (Woonsocket, RI) played in 102 games in 29 matches. She had 308 kills (3.020/game), a .279 hitting percentage, six assists (0.059/game), 56 service aces (0.549/game), 120 digs (1.176/game), and 46 blocks (0.451/game). Her 308 kills is a new single-season record at RIC. She was named to the RIC Invitational All-Tournament team. Yanski led the team in attempts, kills and hitting percentage. She was second in service aces and third in blocks.

Freshman middle hitter Stacy Archambault (Woonsocket, RI) played 99 games in 29 matches. She had 178 kills (1.798/game), a .260 hitting percentage, four assists (0.040/game), 32 service aces (0.323/game), 44 digs (0.444/game), and 122 blocks (1.232/game). Archambault was second on the team in kills, hitting percentage and blocks.

Freshman outside hitter Sara Chamberland (Coventry, RI) played in 88 games in 29 matches. She had seven kills (0.080/game), a .000 hitting percentage, four assists (0.045/game), four service aces (0.045/game), 92 digs (1.045/game), and one block (0.011/game).

Freshman setter Mia Shaffer (Johnston, RI) played in 99 games in 28 matches and was named the teamís MVP. She had 106 kills (1.071/game), a .066 hitting percentage, 488 assists (4.929/game), 78 service aces (0.788/game), 186 digs (1.879/game), and 31 blocks (0.313/game). Her 78 service aces is second all-time at RIC for a single season. Shaffer led the team in assists and service aces and was third in digs.
