Riley to Captain
Rhode Island College Wrestling;
Deveau and Penza Tabbed Assistant Captains


Providence, RIóRhode Island College senior Mike Riley (Lowell, MA) will captain the wrestling team for the 2002-03 season. Sophomore Justin Deveau (North Attleboro, MA) and senior Mike Penza (Cranston, RI) were named assistant captains.


As a junior in 2001-02, Riley earned All-New England honors, placing third at the NECCWA Championships at 133 pounds. Riley had a 28-match winning streak stopped at the championships. He was 37-6 (.860) with 163 points, 128 takedowns, ten reversals, 48 escapes, 21 near-falls and four wins by fall on the year. Riley established a new school record for wins in a season with 37.


He is a finance major and 1997 graduate of Greater Lowell Technical High School.


As a freshman in 2001-02, Deveau earned All-New England honors, placing second at the NECCWA Championships at 197 pounds. He was 31-15 (.673) at 197 pounds with 135 points, 33 takedowns, 15 reversals, 37 escapes, 12 near-falls and eight wins by fall on the year.


He is a marketing major and 2001 graduate of North Attleboro High School.


As a junior in 2001-02, Penza was 3-10 (.230) at 157 and 165 pounds with 18 points, one takedown, four reversals, 26 escapes, one near-fall and one win by fall on the year.

He is an English major with a minor in secondary education and a 1998 graduate of Cranston High School East.


Head Coach Jay Jonesí Anchormen placed seventh (17 teams) at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 16. RIC placed sixth (16 teams) at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield College, on Nov. 23.
