Beacons Defeat Anchorwomen, 84-55

Providence, RI—UMass-Boston forward Andreen Gilpin scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to lead the Beacons past Rhode Island College, 84-55, in women’s college basketball action.

 

Beacon forward Jamila Gales added 26 points and 12 rebounds and guard Felicia Haynes scored 21 points and pulled in nine boards for UMass-Boston. The Beacons got out to a 16-0 lead and never looked back, improving to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Little East Conference.

 

Rhode Island College forward Liz Shields scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds in a losing effort. Anchorwomen guard Lynn Bertherman scored a career-high 10 points as RIC fell to 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in Little East Conference play.

 

RIC is off for finals and the holidays. The Anchorwomen will face Anderson on Dec. 28 and Drew on Dec. 31 during the club’s trip to Arizona. Both games will be played at Grand Canyon University.
