Rhode Island College Men’s Basketball Update #7

(10-4 Overall, 3-2 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kelly’s team is 10-4 overall and 3-2 in the Little East Conference. RIC won two Little East Conference games last week, topping Southern Maine, 80-68, on Jan. 14 and downing Plymouth State, 89-86, on Jan. 18. The victory over Plymouth State helped RIC to improve to 7-0 at home on the season and ended a seven-game losing streak to the Panthers.

With two more victories, RIC will equal its win total of the past three seasons combined (1, 8, 3).

Junior forward Johnafer White (Boston, MA) has played in 14 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 13.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. White scored 23 points and hauled in 12 rebounds in the win over Plymouth State. He also iced the game by making a crucial free throw with 1.7 seconds remaining to lead RIC to victory. White leads the team in rebounding and is second in scoring.

Junior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 14 games, starting 13 of them. He is averaging 13.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Alemdar scored 27 points, including five three-pointers, in the win over Southern Maine. Alemdar is the club’s leading scorer.

Junior guard Andre Daley (Boston, MA) has played in 14 games, starting ten of them. He is averaging 12.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Daley chipped in with 15 points in the win over Plymouth. He leads the squad in steals, is second in assists and third in scoring.

Sophomore forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging 10.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Harris is second on the club in rebounding.

Junior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in 14 games, starting six of them. He is averaging 9.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Freshman guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. He is averaging 5.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 4.4 assists per game. Grandfield is the only RIC played to have started in every game this season and leads the squad in assists.

Freshman forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in nine games. He is averaging 5.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Senior forward Mike Costigan (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 14 games. He is averaging 1.5 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

Freshman guard Gandhi Arias (Hartford, CT) has played in 13 games. He is averaging 1.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Freshman forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 11 games. He is averaging 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

Sophomore forward Brendan Baker (South Yarmouth, MA) has played in eight games. He is averaging 1.4 points and 0.5 rebounds per game.

Sophomore forward Mike Bartunek (Durham, CT) has played in five games. He is averaging 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.

Sophomore forward Raleigh Brennan (Middletown, RI) has played in four games this season. He is averaging 2.2 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Junior guard Matt Records (East Greenwich, RI) has played in three games. He is averaging 0.7 points and 0.7 rebounds per game.

Junior forward Dan Bower (Sackets Harbor, NY) joined the team this semester and saw his first action vs. Southern Maine. He is averaging 1.0 rebound per game.

Sophomore forward Harry Grigsby (Providence, RI) has also joined the team and saw his first action vs. Plymouth State. He is averaging 1.0 rebound per game.

Sophomore guard Dante Phillips (South Yarmouth, MA) has also joined the team, but has yet to see any action.

In upcoming action, the Anchormen will host Western Connecticut on Jan. 21 and Eastern Connecticut on Jan. 25. The game vs. Eastern Connecticut will be broadcast via the internet. Log on to www.ric.edu/athletics and click on the Teamline link to hear the game.
