BARTUNEK’S THREE SEALS WIN FOR ECSU

Providence, RISteve Bartunek nailed a clutch three-point basket with 59 seconds remaining in the game to give Eastern Connecticut State University a 63-60 win in collegiate basketball action. ECSU’s Gordon Shepard made a crucial free throw with 14 seconds left to seal the victory.

The Anchormen had two three-point attempts as time expired, but were unable to tie the game and force overtime. Shepard had 13 points and five boards. Mike Kipphut had 12 points and nine rebounds.

RIC was led by Andre Daley’s 21 points and Jason Harris’ nine rebounds.

The win for the Warriors snaps a fourth-place tie in the Little East with the Anchormen. ECSU improves to 6-11 overall and 4-3 in the LEC. RIC drops its second consecutive LEC game and falls to 10-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

In upcoming action, RIC will host UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
