Rhode Island College Gymnastics Update #4

(2-4 Overall; 2-2 in the ECAC)

 

Providence, RI--Head Coach Nicole Pannone’s team is 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the ECAC (Div. III). RIC placed fourth (five teams) at the Ithaca Invitational with a score of 178.900 on Feb. 22. Brockport placed first with a team score of 183.125, Ithaca placed second at 183.000, Cortland placed third at 180.075 and Wilson placed fifth with a score of 171.375.

 

The Anchorwomen competed in dual action at SUNY-Cortland a day later on Sunday, Feb. 23. RIC fell, 184.925-180.125, to the Red Dragons.

 

Sophomore Ashley O’Blenis (Warren, RI) is averaging scores of 9.011 on vault, 8.907 on bars, 8.764 on beam, 9.432 on floor and 36.114 in the all-around. O’Blenis tied for first in the all-around vs. Cortland with a score of 36.925.

 

Sophomore Caren Normandin (Fall River, MA) is averaging scores of 9.129 on vault, 8.639 on bars, 9.204 on beam, 9.125 on floor and 36.096 in the all-around. Normandin placed second in the all-around at the Ithaca Invitational with a score of 36.450.

 

Senior Shannon Hughey (Warwick, RI) is averaging scores of 8.982 on vault, 9.082 on bars, 7.738 on beam, 9.236 on floor and 34.996 in the all-around. Hughey placed first on bars at the Ithaca Invitational, with a score of 9.400, breaking her own school record on that event.

 

Junior Nikki Longo (Raynham, MA) is averaging scores of 8.932 on vault, 8.515 on bars, 8.879 on beam, 8.175 on floor and 34.438 in the all-around.

 

Junior Nicole Simone (Johnston, RI) is averaging scores of 8.239 on beam and 8.696 on floor. Simone registered a career-high on beam with a score of 8.975 vs. Cortland.

 

Freshman Staci Freedman (Raynham, MA) is averaging scores of 8.900 on vault, 7.843 on bars, 9.004 on beam, 9.193 on floor and 34.939 in the all-around.

 

Freshman Christy Pforr (Pembroke, MA) is averaging a scores 8.600 on vault, 7.100 on bars and 8.613 on floor.

 

Freshmen Heather Turano (Westerly, RI) is averaging scores of 8.585 on vault and 6.900 on bars.

 

Junior Nicki Turner (Salem, NH) is averaging a score of 8.900 on beam.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at Springfield College on Sunday, Mar. 2.

Rhode Island College Men’s Indoor Track Update #8

 

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team competed at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted by MIT, on Feb 21-22. RIC finished 13th (22 teams) with a score of 19. MIT won the meet with a score of 120.

 

Freshman Emmanuel Karngar (Providence, RI) earned All-New England honors in the 800 meters, placing first with a time of 1:53.96 and breaking his own school record in that event.  Karngar also earned All-New England honors as part of the distance medley relay team, which placed second with a time of 10:30.54.

 

Junior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) earned All-New England honors in the 1,000 meters, placing eighth with a time of 2:34.85. Rudd also earned All-New England honors as part of the distance medley relay team, which placed second with a time of 10:30.54.

 

Sophomores Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) and Josh Precourt (Woonsocket, RI) earned All-New England honors as part of the distance medley relay team, which placed second with a time of 10:30.54.

 

Sophomore Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) placed 13th in the weight throw with a distance of 47’02.25”.
