Fanelli, Miller, Schimmel and Warrington
to Captain Rhode Island College Softball

 

Providence, RIóRhode Island College seniors Michele Fanelli (Pembroke Pines, FL), Melanie Miller (Warwick, RI), Caitlin Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) and junior Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) will captain the softball team for the 2003 season.

 

As a junior first baseman in 2002, Fanelli was named First Team All-Little East Conference. Fanelli played in 38 games, starting all of them. She batted .375 with 22 runs, 48 hits, six doubles, four triples, a RIC single-season record 28 RBI and one stolen base. She owned a .484 slugging percentage, a .396 on-base percentage and a .990 fielding percentage.

 

She is a communications major and a 1999 graduate of Cooper City High School.

 

As a junior shortstop in 2002, Miller played in 38 games, starting all of them. She batted .224 with 17 runs, 28 hits, three doubles, six RBI and two stolen bases. She owned a .248 slugging percentage, a .265 on-base percentage and a .920 fielding percentage.

 

She is a psychology major and a 1999 graduate of Pilgrim High School.

 

As a junior second baseman in 2002, Schimmel played in 38 games, starting 37 of them. She scored eight runs with 14 hits, one double, seven RBI and one stolen base. She owned a .174 slugging percentage, a .273 on-base percentage and a .946 fielding percentage.

 

She is a business major and a 1998 graduate of Cumberland High School.

 

As a sophomore in 2002, Warrington was named First Team All-Little East Conference as a designated player and Second Team All-LEC as a pitcher. Warrington appeared in 28 games, starting 25 of them. She was 16-9 with a 0.98 ERA, 23 complete games, seven shutouts, and a RIC single-season record 146 strikeouts in 171.2 innings. She is RICís all-time leader with 282 career strikeouts.

 

She is an elementary education major and a 2000 graduate of North Kingstown High School.

 

Head Coach Maria Morinís team returned home from the Sun West (CA) Tournament with a 3-5 record.
