Rhode Island College Menís Soccer Update #3

(4-3 Overall; 1-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Len Mercurioís team is 4-3 overall and is 1-0 in Little East Conference play. In action last week, the Anchormen defeated Johnson and Wales, 1-0 in double overtime, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, dropped the home opener vs. Connecticut College, 3-2, on Thursday, Sept. 18, then rebounded to defeat Eastern Connecticut in the LEC opener, 1-0, on Saturday, Sept. 20.

 

Sophomore forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He has eight goals and three assists for 19 points this season. Teixeira scored in double-overtime to give RIC a victory, 1-0, over Johnson and Wales. He now has three game-winning goals this season.

 

Sophomore forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He has two goals and three assists for seven points this season. Lopes scored the game-winner in the Anchormenís victory over Eastern Connecticut.

 

Sophomore midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in seven games, starting three of them. He has three goals for six points this season.

 

Freshman forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in seven games, starting two of them. He has one goal for two points this season.

 

Freshman midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He has three assists for three points this season.

 

Sophomore midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in seven games, starting four of them. He has one assist for one point this season.

 

Senior defender Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point this season. Nelson assisted on the Teixeiraís game-winning, overtime goal vs. JWU.

 

Junior forward Tim Calouro (East Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. He has one assist for one point this season.

 

Junior goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played and started in three games. He has made 20 saves, while allowing nine goals this season. Nelsonís current goals against average is 3.00.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Amaral (Seekonk, MA) has played and started four games. He has made 18 saves while allowing six goals this season. Amaralís current goals against average is 1.45. Amaral earned his first collegiate shutout in the win over JWU then recorded his second against Eastern Connecticut. For his efforts last week in goal, Amaral earned Little East Conference Menís Soccer Rookie of the Week honors.

 

Sophomore midfielder Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in seven games, starting six of them.

 

Senior midfielder Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them.

 

Junior midfielder Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in three games, starting one of them.

 

Junior midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them.

 

Freshman forward Richard DíAmico (Smithfield, RI) has played in six games.

 

Freshman defender Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in four games, starting three of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in two games.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in one game.

 

Sophomore defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in three games.

 

Freshman midfielder Tim DaPonte (Bristol, RI) has played in one game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Salem State College on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 3:30 p.m. and travel to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, Sept. 27.
