Rhode Island College Menís Soccer Update #4

(6-3 Overall; 2-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Len Mercurioís team is 6-3 overall and is 2-0 in Little East Conference play. In action last week, the Anchormen went 2-0, defeating Salem State College, 2-1, on Wednesday, Sept. 24 and LEC foe Southern Maine, 6-1, on Saturday, Sept. 27 to remain unbeaten in the conference.

 

Sophomore forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He has six goals and five assists for 17 points this season. Lopes tallied 10 points on four goals and two assists in RICís two games last week. He scored four goals, including the game-winner, in the Anchormenís victory over Southern Maine. For his efforts, Lopes was named Little East Menís Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

 

Sophomore forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in nine games, starting eight of them. He has 12 goals and three assists for 27 points this season. Teixeira scored both RIC goals in the 2-1 victory over Salem State. He now has four game-winning goals this season. He leads the Little East in both goals and points.

 

Sophomore midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in nine games, starting five of them. He has three goals for six points this season.

 

Freshman forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in nine games, starting three of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points this season.

 

Freshman midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He has three assists for three points this season.

 

Senior defender Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He has two assists for two points this season.

 

Sophomore midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in nine games, starting six of them. He has one assist for one point this season.

 

Junior forward Tim Calouro (East Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. He has one assist for one point this season.

 

Senior midfielder Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He has one assist for one point this season.

 

Junior goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played and started in four games. He has made 25 saves, while allowing ten goals this season. Nelsonís current goals against average is 2.50.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Amaral (Seekonk, MA) has played and started five games. He has made 24 saves while allowing seven goals this season. Amaralís current goals against average is 1.36.

 

Junior midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in nine games, starting seven of them.

 

Junior midfielder Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in five games, starting three of them.

 

Freshman forward Richard DíAmico (Smithfield, RI) has played in seven games.

 

Freshman defender Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in five games, starting three of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in four games.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in two games.

 

Sophomore defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in four games.

 

Freshman midfielder Tim DaPonte (Bristol, RI) has played in three games.

 

Freshman defender Matt Tente (Wakefield, RI) has played in one game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Roger Williams on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. and UMass-Boston on Saturday, Oct. 4.
