Rhode Island College Menís Soccer Update #5

(7-4 Overall; 3-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Len Mercurioís team is 7-4 overall and is 3-0 in Little East Conference play. In action last week, the Anchormen split two games, falling to Roger Williams, 3-2, on Wednesday, Oct. 1, then defeating UMass-Boston, 5-1, on Saturday, Oct. 4 to remain unbeaten in the conference.

 

Sophomore forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) has played in 11 games, starting ten of them. He has 17 goals and three assists for 37 points this season. Teixeira scored four goals in RICís 5-1 victory over UMass-Boston and one goal in the 3-2 loss to Roger Williams. He now has five game-winning goals this season. He leads the Little East in both goals and points. Teixeira is also ranked in the top-ten nationally for points per game (3.36) and goals per game (1.55). For his efforts, Teixeira was named Little East Menís Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.

 

Sophomore forward Cory Lopes (Somerset, MA) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He has six goals and six assists for 18 points this season. Lopes leads the team in assists and is second in goals and points.

 

Sophomore midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter, RI) has played in 11 games, starting six of them. He has three goals for six points this season.

 

Freshman forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI) has played in nine games, starting three of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points this season.

 

Freshman midfielder Nic Rossi (North Kingstown, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He has three assists for three points this season.

 

Senior defender Josh Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He has one goal and two assists for four points this season. Nelson scored his first goal of the season in the loss to RWU.

 

Sophomore midfielder Dan Toro (Pawtucket, RI) has played in ten games, starting six of them. He has two assists for two points this season.

 

Senior midfielder Brian Schimmel (Cumberland, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He has one goal and one assist for three points this season. Schimmel scored his first goal of the season in the win over UMass-Boston.

 

Freshman midfielder Tim DaPonte (Bristol, RI) has played in five games, starting one of them. He has one assist for one point this season.

 

Junior goalkeeper Jason Nelson (Pascoag, RI) has played and started in four games. He has made 25 saves, while allowing ten goals this season. Nelsonís current goals against average is 2.50.

 

Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Amaral (Seekonk, MA) has played and started seven games. He has made 31 saves while allowing 11 goals this season. Amaralís current goals against average is 1.54. He has recorded two shutouts.

 

Junior midfielder German Cardona (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Matt Borges (New Bedford, MA) has played in eight games, starting all of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Josh Braga (Fall River, MA) has played in 11 games, starting nine of them.

 

Junior midfielder Mike Maciel (East Providence, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them.

 

Freshman forward Richard DíAmico (Smithfield, RI) has played in nine games, starting one of them.

 

Freshman defender Scott Westcott (Scituate, RI) has played in six games, starting three of them.

 

Sophomore midfielder Chris Cunha (East Providence, RI) has played in five games.

 

Sophomore midfielder Boima Konuwa (Pawtucket, RI) has played in three games.

 

Sophomore defender Tim Poblocki (Thompson, CT) has played in nine games, starting one of them.

 

Freshman defender Matt Tente (Wakefield, RI) has played in two games.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, Oct. 11.
