Rhode Island College Womenís Volleyball Update #4

(8-9 Overall; 3-1 in the Little East Conference)

 

Providence, RI--Head Coach Craig Letourneauís Anchorwomen are 8-9 overall and 3-1 in the Little East Conference. In action last week, the Anchorwomen were defeated for the first time in conference play this season by Western Connecticut, 3-0, on Oct. 1.

 

RIC rebounded to win the RIC Invitational on Oct. 3-4. The Anchorwomen defeated Pine Manor, 3-0, Regis College, 3-0, and Framingham State, 3-0, to win the tournament without ever losing a game. It was the fourth time the Anchorwomen have captured the RIC Invitational title in the last five years.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 43 games in 12 matches. She has 83 kills (1.930/game), a .197 hitting percentage, 18 service aces (0.419/game), 25 digs (0.581/game), and seven blocks (0.163/game). Nix was named RIC Invitationalís Most Valuable Player.

 

Freshman middle hitter Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) has played in 61 games in 17 matches. She has 153 kills (2.508/game), a .285 hitting percentage, nine assists (0.148/game), 54 service aces (0.885/game), 86 digs (1.410/game), and 30 blocks (0.492/game). Geisler was named to the RIC Invitational All-Tournament Team.

 

Freshman middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) has played in 61 games in 17 matches. She has 132 kills (2.164/game), a .334 hitting percentage, two assists (0.033/game), nine service aces (0.148/game), 22 digs (0.361/game), and 51 blocks (0.836/game).

 

Senior outside hitter Erica Poirier (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 61 games in 17 matches. She has 122 kills (2.000/game), a .144 hitting percentage, one assist (0.016/game), 19 service aces (0.311/game), 44 digs (0.721/game), and 28 blocks (0.459/game).

 

Freshman setter Kara Sarcione (Londonderry, NH) has played in 61 games in 17 matches. She has 24 kills (0.393/game), a .162 hitting percentage, 444 assists (7.279/game), 33 service aces (0.541/game), 73 digs (1.197/game), and nine blocks (0.148/game).

 

Sophomore libero Sara Chamberland (Coventry, RI) has played in 60 games in 17 matches. She has 20 kills (0.333/game), a .043 hitting percentage, seven assists (0.117/game), eight service aces (0.133/game), 154 digs (2.567/game), and five blocks (0.083/game).

 

Sophomore right side hitter Stephanie Wojciechowski (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 57 games in 17 matches. She has 45 kills (0.789/game), a .188 hitting percentage, 12 assists (0.211/game), 35 service aces (0.614/game), 146 digs (2.561/game) and six blocks (0.105/game).

 

Freshman outside hitter Julie Seitsinger (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 60 games in 17 matches. She has 11 kills (0.183/game), a .023 hitting percentage, two assists (0.033/game), 19 service aces (0.317/game), 49 digs (0.817/game), and one block (0.017/game).

 

Junior outside hitter Vicky Bilalyan (Cranston, RI) has played in 12 games in eight matches. She has nine digs (0.750/game) this season.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Keene State on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. and Clark University on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., then travel to Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.
