Rhode Island College Baseball Update #1

(5-4 Overall; 0-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 5-4 overall and has yet to play a Little East Conference game. The squad’s first nine games took place from March 6-13 at the Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, FL. Of the squad's eight opponents, three were nationally ranked.

 

Senior first baseman Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is batting a team-best .556 with ten hits, one double, one home run, three walks, three runs scored and seven RBI. Gibree owns a .778 slugging percentage, a team-best .609 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. He is now just four hits shy of the RIC all-time career mark.

 

Junior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He is batting a .475 while leading the team with 19 hits, two triples, three home runs, 19 RBI and a .900 slugging percentage. Higgins also has four doubles, two walks and 14 runs scored. Higgins owns a .488 on-base percentage and a .778 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .424 with 14 hits, two doubles, four walks, 14 runs scored and seven RBI. Brannon owns a .485 slugging percentage, a .474 on-base percentage and a .947 fielding percentage. On the mound, Dusablon has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 1-0 record with a 4.00 ERA. In 9.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Junior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in seven games, starting all of them. He is batting .400 with ten hits, two doubles, three walks, six runs scored and four RBI. Brannon owns a .480 slugging percentage, a .438 on-base percentage and a .972 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared and started in two games. He owns a 1-1 record with a 7.36 ERA. In 11.0 innings pitched, he has struck out six batters.

 

Junior pitcher Jeremy Edwards (Exeter, RI) has appeared in two games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 2.45 ERA. In 3.2 innings pitched, he has struck out five batters.

 

Sophomore shortstop Ray De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .441 with 15 hits, one doubles, one home run, one walk, seven runs scored and eight RBI. De La Cruz owns a .559 slugging percentage, a .447 on-base percentage and a .880 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Adolfo Perez (Miami, FL) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .259 with seven hits, four doubles, four walks, eight runs scored and two RBI. Perez owns a .407 slugging percentage, a .375 on-base percentage and a .933 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder/pitcher Brandon White (Foster, RI) has played in three games, starting two of them. He is batting .375 with three hits, one double, one walk, one run scored and two RBI. Brannon owns a .500 slugging percentage, a .500 on-base percentage and a .952 fielding percentage. On the mound, White has appeared and started in two games. He owns a 1-1 record with a 4.66 ERA. In 9.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 14 batters.

 

Junior catcher Eric Kelly (Fall River, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. He is batting .227 with five hits, two doubles, one home run, two walks, three runs scored and two RBI. Kelly owns a .455 slugging percentage, a .346 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Mike Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in four games, starting three of them. He is batting .545 with six hits, one double, three runs scored and three RBI. Luke owns a .636 slugging percentage, a .545 on-base percentage and a .889 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) as appeared in three games, starting two of them. He owns a 0-1 record with a 3.77 ERA. In 14.1 innings pitched, he has struck out a team-high 15 batters.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in two games, starting all of them.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in five games, starting four of them. He is batting .222 with four hits, one doubles, one walk, four runs scored and four RBI. Smaldone owns a .278 slugging percentage, a .300 on-base percentage and a .778 fielding percentage.

Freshman outfielder Bobby DeSousa (Fall River, MA) has appeared in three games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 18.00 ERA. In 3.0 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in six games, starting five of them. He is batting .176 with three hits, one double, five walks, four runs scored and six RBI. Henault owns a .235 slugging percentage, a .391 on-base percentage and a .975 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in two games, starting one of them. He is batting .500 with one hit and one walk. Aldoupolis owns a .500 slugging percentage, a .667 on-base percentage and a .429 fielding percentage.

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play three games this week. RIC will travel to face Roger Williams on Tuesday, Mar. 23 at 3 p.m., then will host Framingham State on Wednesday, Mar. 24 at 3 p.m. and Worcester State on Thursday, Mar. 25 at 3 p.m.
