ANCHORWOMEN AND OWLS SPLIT TWO

Providence, RIóRhode Island College and Keene State College split a doubleheader in collegiate softball action on Saturday afternoon. Both games were decided in dramatic fashion as RIC took the first game, 2-1, in eight innings, and the Owls won in their last at-bat in the rubber game, 1-0.

In game one, RIC sophomore left fielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield, RI) singled in the bottom of the eighth and then scored on junior Amy Machado's (Newport, RI) two-out single, which was misplayed by the KSC centerfielder. Senior pitcher Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) struck out 11 to earn her third win of the season.

The Owls played a scoreless game with the Anchorwomen in game two until the bottom of the seventh. Senior Caroline Kurkowski (Niskayuna, NY) led off the seventh with a single and then was lifted for pinch runner junior Meghan McLoughlin (Brattleboro, VT). After a sacrifice and a strikeout, sophomore Tiffany Underhill (Eastham, MA) singled and moved McLoughlin to third. She then scored on an error to win the game. Freshman pitcher Erin Fuoroli (Warwick, RI) struck out five to earn her fourth victory of the year.

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Babson on Tuesday, Mar. 30 at 2:30 p.m.
