Rhode Island College Baseball Update #2

(7-4 Overall; 0-0 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 7-4 overall and has yet to play a Little East Conference game. The squad swept both their contests this past week. The Anchormen defeated Framingham State, 10-1, at home on Wednesday, March 24 and Worcester State, 8-7, also at home on Thursday, March 25.

 

Junior outfielder/pitcher Brandon White (Foster, RI) has played in four games, starting two of them. He is batting a team-best .545 with six hits, one double, two walks, three runs scored and four RBI. White owns a .636 slugging percentage, a .643 on-base percentage and a .964 fielding percentage. In the victory over Framingham State, White was 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. On the mound, White has appeared and started in three games. He owns a 1-1 record with a 6.75 ERA. In 14.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 18 batters.

 

Junior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .469 while leading the team with 23 hits, three triples, four home runs, 23 RBI, 19 runs scored and a .939 slugging percentage. Higgins also has five doubles, three walks, a .491 on-base percentage and a .818 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 10 games, starting all of them. He is batting .415 with 17 hits, three doubles, five walks, 16 runs scored and seven RBI. Dusablon owns a .488 slugging percentage, a .479 on-base percentage and a .958 fielding percentage. On the mound, Dusablon has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 1-0 record with a 4.00 ERA. In 9.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Junior catcher Eric Kelly (Fall River, MA) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .226 with seven hits, two doubles, one home run, two walks, four runs scored and six RBI. Kelly owns a .387 slugging percentage, a .314 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. Kelly singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in the victory over Worcester State.

 

Senior first baseman Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He is batting .526 with ten hits, one double, one home run, three walks, three runs scored and seven RBI. Gibree owns a .737 slugging percentage, a .583 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. He is now just four hits shy of the RIC all-time career mark.

 

Junior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is batting .379 with 11 hits, two doubles, three walks, six runs scored and four RBI. Brannon owns a .448 slugging percentage, a .432 on-base percentage and a .978 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared and started in three games. He owns a 2-1 record with a 5.00 ERA. In 18.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 13 batters.

 

Junior pitcher Jeremy Edwards (Exeter, RI) has appeared in two games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 2.45 ERA. In 3.2 innings pitched, he has struck out five batters.

 

Sophomore shortstop Ray De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He is batting .465 with 20 hits, two doubles, two home runs, one walk, 11 runs scored and ten RBI. De La Cruz owns a .698 slugging percentage, a .468 on-base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Adolfo Perez (Miami, FL) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He is batting .235 with eight hits, five doubles, four walks, eight runs scored and two RBI. Perez owns a .382 slugging percentage, a .333 on-base percentage and a .944 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Mike Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in five games, starting four of them. He is batting .500 with seven hits, one double, three runs scored and four RBI. Luke owns a .579 slugging percentage, a .467 on-base percentage and a .889 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in five games, starting two of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 2.95 ERA. In 18.1 innings pitched, he has struck out a team-high 19 batters.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is batting .192 with five hits, one doubles, two walks, four runs scored and five RBI. Smaldone owns a .231 slugging percentage, a .276 on-base percentage and a .826 fielding percentage.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in four games, starting two of them.

 

Junior infielder Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in six games, starting two of them. He is batting .300 with three hits, one walk, four runs scored and three RBI. Trupiano owns a .300 slugging percentage, a .364 on-base percentage and a .778 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) as appeared in two games, starting one of them. He owns a 0-1 record with a 15.00 ERA. In 6.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Sophomore outfielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) has played in 11 games, starting all of them. He is batting .278 with ten hits, three doubles, one home run, three walks, five runs scored and four RBI. Naylor owns a .444 slugging percentage, a .349 on-base percentage and a .917 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in four games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 5.79 ERA. In 9.1 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 1-0 record with a 12.00 ERA. In 6.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Bobby DeSousa (Fall River, MA) has appeared in three games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 18.00 ERA. In 3.0 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is batting .200 with four hits, one double, five walks, six runs scored and six RBI. Henault owns a .250 slugging percentage, a .407 on-base percentage and a .981 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in two games, starting one of them. He is batting .500 with one hit and one walk. Aldoupolis owns a .500 slugging percentage, a .667 on-base percentage and a .429 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman outfielder/infielder Mike Simao (Cumberland, RI) has played in four games, starting one of them. He has two runs scored. Simao owns a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play three games this week. RIC will travel to face Salve Regina on Wednesday, Mar. 31 at 6 p.m., then will host Salem State on Thursday, April 1 at 3 p.m. and LEC foe Southern Maine on Saturday, April 3 for a doubleheader at noon.
