Rhode Island College Softball Update #2

(6-8 Overall; 1-1 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morin’s team is 6-8 overall and 1-1 in Little East Conference action. The squad’s first games back from their trip out west took place at Roger Williams where the Anchorwomen split a doubleheader, taking the first game, 10-5, and dropping the second contest, 2-0, on Thursday, Mar. 25. RIC returned home on Saturday, Mar. 27 for its LEC opening doubleheader versus 17th-ranked Keene State. The Anchorwomen won game one, 2-1 in eight innings, before falling, 1-0, in the second game.

 

Senior outfielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. She is batting a team-best .367 while also leading the squad with 18 hits, nine runs scored and a .385 on-base percentage. Gaber also has one double, two walks, four RBI, a .388 slugging percentage and an .889 fielding percentage.

 

Senior pitcher/designated player Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has played in ten games, starting seven of them. She is batting .261 with six hits, two walks and two runs scored. Warrington owns a .391 slugging percentage, a .320 on-base percentage and a .941 fielding percentage. On the mound, Warrington has appeared in 11 games, starting seven games. She owns a 3-4 record with a 3.83 ERA. In 51.2 innings pitched, she has struck out a team-high 68 batters.

 

Junior catcher Rachael Caldwell (Richmond, RI) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. She is batting .225 with nine hits, one double, three walks, five runs scored and three RBI. Caldwell owns a .250 slugging percentage, a .311 on-base percentage and a .983 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman catcher/infielder Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. She is batting .348 with 16 hits, one double, one walk, four runs scored and eight RBI. Alexander owns a .370 slugging percentage, a .354 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. She is batting .333 with 14 hits, three doubles, two walks, three runs scored and five RBI. Machado owns a team-best .405 slugging percentage, a .378 on-base percentage and a .844 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Aimee Reed (Pawcatuck, CT) has played in eight games, starting six of them. She is batting .250 with one hit, three walks, one run scored and one RBI. Reed owns a .250 slugging percentage, a .571 on-base percentage and a .840 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman pitcher Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in nine games, starting seven of them. She owns a 3-4 record with a 2.47 ERA. In 40.0 innings pitched, she has struck out 43 batters.

 

Freshman infielder Crystal O’Connell (Somerset, MA) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. She is batting .227 with five hits, one double, two walks, four runs scored and three RBI. O'Connell owns a .273 slugging percentage, a .292 on-base percentage and a .947 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield, RI) has played in 14 games, starting nine of them. She is batting .282 with 11 hits, a team-high two triples, four walks, six runs scored and five RBI. Ponte owns a .385 slugging percentage, a .349 on-base percentage and a .765 fielding percentage. She scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning in the victory over Keene State.

 

Sophomore infielder Alyssa Severino (Taunton, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. She is batting .167 with one hit. Severino owns a .167 slugging percentage, a .167 on-base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in ten games, starting two of them. She is batting .250 with two hits and two runs scored hit. Sitnik owns a .250 slugging percentage, a .250 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Senior outfielder Hollie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in ten games, starting four of them. She is batting .077 with one hit, two walks, one run scored and one RBI. Benevides owns a .077 slugging percentage, a .200 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Katelyn Labelle (South Dartmouth, MA) has played in 14 games, starting all of them. She is batting .161 with five hits, two doubles, seven walks, four runs scored and six RBI. Labelle owns a .226 slugging percentage, a .316 on-base percentage and a .969 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman outfielder Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) has played in 11 games, starting eight of them. She is batting .273 with six hits and three runs scored. Lyons owns a .273 slugging percentage, a .273 on-base percentage and a .909 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in five games, starting three of them.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will travel to Babson College on Tuesday, Mar. 30 at 2:30 p.m., then host Worcester State on Wednesday, Mar. 31 at 3 p.m., before heading back on the road to face LEC foe Southern Maine on Saturday, Apr. 3 at 1 p.m. All three contests will be doubleheaders.
