Rhode Island College Baseball Update #3

(7-6 Overall; 0-2 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 7-6 overall and 0-2 in the Little East Conference. In their only action last week, the Anchormen were swept at Southern Maine on Saturday, April 3, 1-0 and 6-0, in a doubleheader versus the Huskies.

 

Senior first baseman Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He is batting a team-best .520 with 13 hits, one double, one home run, four walks, three runs scored and seven RBI. Gibree owns a .680 slugging percentage, a .581 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. He went 3-6 this weekend versus Southern Maine and is now just one hit shy of the RIC all-time career mark.

 

Junior outfielder/pitcher Brandon White (Foster, RI) has played in five games, starting three of them. He is batting .500 with seven hits, one double, two walks, three runs scored and four RBI. White owns a .571 slugging percentage, a team-high .588 on-base percentage and a .973 fielding percentage. On the mound, White has appeared in four games, starting three of them. He owns a 1-1 record with a 6.19 ERA. In 16.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 19 batters.

 

Junior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .404 while leading the team with 23 hits, three triples, four home runs, 23 RBI, 19 runs scored and a .807 slugging percentage. Higgins also has five doubles, three walks, a .425 on-base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 12 games, starting all of them. He is batting .375 with 18 hits, three doubles, six walks, 16 runs scored and seven RBI. Dusablon owns a .438 slugging percentage, a .446 on-base percentage and a .963 fielding percentage. On the mound, Dusablon has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 1-0 record with a 4.00 ERA. In 9.0 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Junior catcher Eric Kelly (Fall River, MA) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He is batting .229 with eight hits, two doubles, one home run, two walks, four runs scored and six RBI. Kelly owns a .371 slugging percentage, a .308 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage. Kelly singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning in the victory over Worcester State.

 

Junior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in nine games, starting all of them. He is batting .375 with 12 hits, two doubles, three walks, six runs scored and four RBI. Brannon owns a .438 slugging percentage, a .425 on-base percentage and a .983 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared and started in four games. He owns a 2-2 record with a 6.26 ERA. In 23.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 17 batters.

 

Junior pitcher Jeremy Edwards (Exeter, RI) has appeared in three games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 1.17 ERA. In 7.2 innings pitched, he has struck ten five batters.

 

Sophomore shortstop Ray De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 12 games, starting all of them. He is batting .392 with 20 hits, two doubles, two home runs, one walk, 11 runs scored and ten RBI. De La Cruz owns a .588 slugging percentage, a .400 on-base percentage and a .882 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Adolfo Perez (Miami, FL) has played in 12 games, starting all of them. He is batting .225 with nine hits, five doubles, four walks, eight runs scored and two RBI. Perez owns a .350 slugging percentage, a .311 on-base percentage and a .938 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Mike Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in six games, starting five of them. He is batting .412 with seven hits, one double, three runs scored and four RBI. Luke owns a .471 slugging percentage, a .389 on-base percentage and a .923 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in six games, starting three of them. He owns a 1-2 record with a 2.42 ERA. In 26.0 innings pitched, he has struck out a team-high 23 batters.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is batting .192 with five hits, one doubles, two walks, four runs scored and five RBI. Smaldone owns a .231 slugging percentage, a .276 on-base percentage and a .826 fielding percentage.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in four games, starting two of them.

 

Junior infielder Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in eight games, starting three of them. He is batting .231 with three hits, one walk, four runs scored and three RBI. Trupiano owns a .231 slugging percentage, a .286 on-base percentage and a .778 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) as appeared in two games, starting one of them. He owns a 0-1 record with a 15.00 ERA. In 6.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Sophomore outfielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .262 with 11 hits, three doubles, one home run, three walks, five runs scored and four RBI. Naylor owns a .405 slugging percentage, a .327 on-base percentage and a .929 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in four games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 5.79 ERA. In 9.1 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared and started in one game. He owns a 1-0 record with a 12.00 ERA. In 6.0 innings pitched, he has struck out two batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Bobby DeSousa (Fall River, MA) has appeared in three games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 18.00 ERA. In 3.0 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Freshman catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He is batting .174 with four hits, one double, five walks, six runs scored and six RBI. Henault owns a .217 slugging percentage, a .367 on-base percentage and a .967 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in two games, starting one of them. He is batting .500 with one hit and one walk. Aldoupolis owns a .500 slugging percentage, a .667 on-base percentage and a .429 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman outfielder/infielder Mike Simao (Cumberland, RI) has played in four games, starting one of them. He has two runs scored. Simao owns a .333 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play six games this week. RIC will first have a three-game home stand versus Bridgewater State on Monday, April 5 at 3 p.m., then Becker College on Tuesday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m., and finally Coast Guard on Wednesday, April 7 at 3 p.m. The Anchormen will then travel to face LEC foe UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday, April 8 at 3:30 and Keene State on Saturday, April 10 for an LEC doubleheader starting at noon. This week begins a stretch of nine scheduled games in the next ten days for the Anchormen.
