Rhode Island College Baseball Update #4

(9-9 Overall; 0-5 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Grenier's team is 9-9 overall and 0-5 in the Little East Conference. In five contests last week, the Anchormen came away with a 2-0 non-conference record and an 0-3 LEC mark. RIC opened the week with home victories over Becker, 13-8, on Apr. 7 and Coast Guard, 8-3, on Apr. 8. The Anchormen then dropped a close contest, 4-3, at UMass-Dartmouth on Apr. 8 before being swept at Keene State, 15-8 and 10-2, in a conference doubleheader.

 

Senior first baseman Eric Gibree (Bristol, RI) has played in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He became Rhode Island College’s all-time leader in career hits (158) in the victory over Becker. Gibree is batting .395 with 17 hits, two doubles, one home run, five walks, five runs scored and eight RBI. Gibree owns a .512 slugging percentage, a .460 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior outfielder/pitcher Brandon White (Foster, RI) has played in seven games, starting five of them. He is batting a team-best .455 with ten hits, one double, three walks, six runs scored and five RBI. White owns a .500 slugging percentage, a team-high .538 on-base percentage and a .974 fielding percentage. On the mound, White has appeared in five games, starting four of them. He owns a 1-2 record with a 6.95 ERA. In 22.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 23 batters.

 

Junior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA) has played in 18 games, starting all of them. He is batting .365 while leading the team with 27 hits, three triples, four home runs, 25 RBI, 22 runs scored and a .689 slugging percentage. Higgins also has six doubles, seven walks, a .422 on-base percentage and a .882 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher/outfielder Glenn Dusablon (North Smithfield, RI) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. He is batting .339 with 21 hits, three doubles, one home run, nine walks, 20 runs scored and ten RBI. Dusablon owns a .435 slugging percentage, a .419 on-base percentage and a .975 fielding percentage. On the mound, Dusablon has appeared in and started two games. He owns a 2-0 record with a 3.94 ERA. In 16.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 12 batters.

 

Junior first baseman/pitcher Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) has played in 13 games, starting all of them. He is batting .362 with 17 hits, three doubles, one home run, three walks, nine runs scored and nine RBI. Brannon owns a .489 slugging percentage, a .411 on-base percentage and a .990 fielding percentage. On the mound, Brannon has appeared in six games, starting five of them. He owns a 2-3 record with a 6.95 ERA. In 29.0 innings pitched, he has struck out a team-high 25 batters.

 

Sophomore shortstop Ray De La Cruz (Pawtucket, RI) has played in 17 games, starting all of them. He is batting .366 with 26 hits, two doubles, two home runs, three walks, 14 runs scored and 12 RBI. De La Cruz owns a .507 slugging percentage, a .397 on-base percentage and a .869 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) has played in 18 games, starting all of them. He is batting .328 with 21 hits, five doubles, two triples, one home run, three walks, ten runs scored and six RBI. Naylor owns a .516 slugging percentage, a .366 on-base percentage and a .957 fielding percentage.

 

Junior catcher Eric Kelly (Fall River, MA) has played in 13 games, starting 12 of them. He is batting .229 with 11 hits, three doubles, one home run, three walks, seven runs scored and ten RBI. Kelly owns a .354 slugging percentage, a .302 on-base percentage and a .984 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Jeremy Edwards (Exeter, RI) has appeared in three games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 1.17 ERA. In 7.2 innings pitched, he has struck ten five batters.

 

Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Adolfo Perez (Miami, FL) has played in 15 games, starting all of them. He is batting .231 with 12 hits, six doubles, five walks, nine runs scored and four RBI. Perez owns a .346 slugging percentage, a .310 on-base percentage and a .950 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Mike Luke (Cranston, RI) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is batting .350 with seven hits, one double, four runs scored and five RBI. Luke owns a .400 slugging percentage, a .364 on-base percentage and a .789 fielding percentage.

 

Junior pitcher Jim Milano (Johnston, RI) has appeared in seven games, starting four of them. He owns a 1-3 record with a 2.62 ERA. In 34.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 27 batters.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Chris Smaldone (Johnston, RI) has played in 11 games, starting ten of them. He is batting .195 with eight hits, one double, three walks, five runs scored and eight RBI. Smaldone owns a .220 slugging percentage, a .261 on-base percentage and a .730 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) has played in 11 games, starting nine of them. He is batting .226 with seven hits, two doubles, seven walks, seven runs scored and seven RBI. Henault owns a .290 slugging percentage, a .400 on-base percentage and a .961 fielding percentage.

 

Junior catcher/infielder Anthony Pacitto (Johnston, RI) has played in six games, starting four of them. He is batting .118 with two hits, one double, two walks and one run scored. Pacitto owns a .176 slugging percentage, a .211 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Brian Trupiano (Franklin, MA) has played in ten games, starting three of them. He is batting .313 with five hits, one double, one walk, five runs scored and three RBI. Trupiano owns a .375 slugging percentage, a .353 on-base percentage and a .818 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI) as appeared in four games, starting one of them. He owns a 1-1 record with an 11.85 ERA. In 13.2 innings pitched, he has struck out seven batters.

 

Sophomore pitcher Bruce Taraska (Exeter, RI) has appeared in seven games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 6.75 ERA. In 13.1 innings pitched, he has struck out six batters.

 

Freshman pitcher Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) has appeared in and started two games. He owns a 1-0 record with a 12.96 ERA. In 8.1 innings pitched, he has struck out five batters.

 

Freshman outfielder Bobby DeSousa (Fall River, MA) has appeared in four games. He owns a 0-0 record with a 13.50 ERA. In 4.0 innings pitched, he has struck out three batters.

 

Junior infielder Jamie Aldoupolis (Ashland, MA) has played in five games, starting one of them. He is batting .600 with three hits, two doubles, two walks, two runs scored and one RBI. Aldoupolis owns a 1.000 slugging percentage, a .667 on-base percentage and a .444 fielding percentage.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchormen are scheduled to play eight games in the next seven days. RIC will first have a three-game home stand versus UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday, Apr. 13 at 3:30 p.m., then a doubleheader versus Roger Williams on Wednesday, Apr. 14 at 1:30 p.m. RIC then travels to Salve Regina for a single game on Thursday, Apr. 15 before returning home for two doubleheaders, first versus Western Connecticut on Saturday, Apr. 17 at noon and Thomas College on Sunday, Apr. 18 at noon.
