RIC BREAKS LOSING STREAK IN DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT

Providence, RIóRhode Island College snapped a 19-game losing streak to Little East Conference rival Western Connecticut State University by taking game one of a doubleheader, 1-0, in collegiate softball action. The win also secured the program's sixth consecutive 20-win season. The Colonials came back to shut out RIC, 3-0, in game two. Each of RIC's ten losses have come by way of shutout.

In game one, RIC freshman designated player Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) plated junior catcher Rachael Caldwell (Richmond, RI) in the second inning and that would be all senior pitcher Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) (10-5) would need to earn the win. The Colonials loaded the bases with two gone in the top of the seventh, but Warrington picked up her seventh strikeout to close out the game. WCSU sophomore pitcher Kristy Swanson (Danbury, CT) was the hard-luck loser (4-6).

In game two, junior Dez Lanphear's (Danbury, CT) RBI triple in the fifth inning plated the eventual game-winning run for WCSU. Junior pitcher Brooke Morris (Stamford, CT) allowed only four hits and struck out six to earn her sixth win (6-2) on the season. Riley (10-5) was the losing pitcher for RIC.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Westfield State on Thursday, Apr. 22.
