RIC TAKES ONE; TIES WESTFIELD STATE IN GAME TWO

Providence, RIóRhode Island College won the first game of a doubleheader, 3-0, then tied Westfield State, 4-4, in the second game, which was called because of darkness. The Anchorwomen improve to 21-10-1, while WSC falls to 9-17-1.

The Anchorwomen won the first game, 3-0, behind a strong effort from senior pitcher Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) who allowed only two hits and fanned eight to improve her record to 11-5. Freshman designated hitter Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) had the game's only RBI as RIC clawed out all three runs on just three hits. WSC junior pitcher Leah Peterson (Lakeville, MA) took the loss (6-4), allowing only one earned run and striking out eight in six innings of work.

The Owls jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two and a third innings in the second game, but RIC came back to score two runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth to even things up. Riley and Warrington combined to strike out seven for RIC. Senior starting pitcher Sarah Simmons (Salem, MA) allowed all of RIC's runs and gave way to Peterson in the fifth. RIC freshman designated player Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA) went 3-4 with one run scored, a double and an RBI. Peterson went 2-3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a double.

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Apr. 24.
