Rhode Island College Softball Update #5

(21-12-1 Overall; 9-5 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morinís team is 21-12-1 overall and 9-5 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen went 2-3-1 this past week. RIC first split a doubleheader with Western Connecticut, 1-0 and 0-3, on Apr. 20, then in a doubleheader versus Westfield State on Apr. 22, the Anchorwomen won game one, 3-0, then tied a darkness-shortened game two, 4-4. RIC concluded the conference season by dropping two games at Eastern Connecticut, 2-1 and 4-1, on Apr. 24.

 

The Anchorwomen will be the second seed in the 2004 Little East Conference Softball Tournament, which will be hosted by Keene State on Thursday-Saturday, Apr. 29-May 1. RIC will play its first game against the winner of Western Connecticut vs. Plymouth on Thursday, Apr. 29 at 4 p.m.

 

Freshman catcher/infielder Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting a team-best .364 with a team-high 40 hits, five doubles and 20 RBI. Alexander also has six walks, 12 runs scored, a .409 slugging percentage, a .390 on-base percentage and a .962 fielding percentage.

 

Senior pitcher/designated player Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 26 games, starting 22 of them. She is batting .294 with 20 hits, four doubles, two home runs, six walks, five runs and 11 RBI. Warrington owns a team-best .441 slugging percentage, a .351 on-base percentage and a .923 fielding percentage. On the mound, Warrington has appeared in 25 games, starting 17 of them. She owns an 11-6 record with a 1.88 ERA. In 130.0 innings pitched, she has struck out a team-high 130 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher/designated player Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) has appeared in 23 games, starting 21 of them. She is batting .345 with 19 hits, one double, one triple, four walks, four runs scored and nine RBI. Riley owns a .400 slugging percentage, a .390 on-base percentage and a .920 fielding percentage. On the mound, Riley has appeared in 19 games, starting 17 of them. She owns a 10-6 record with a team-best 1.84 ERA. In 98.2 innings pitched, she has struck out 91 batters.

 

Sophomore outfielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield, RI) has played in 34 games, starting 33 of them. She is batting .302 with 32 hits, three doubles, a team-high three triples, ten walks, 20 runs scored and 11 RBI. Ponte owns a .387 slugging percentage, a .362 on-base percentage and a .889 fielding percentage.

 

Senior outfielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting .295 with 35 hits, four doubles, seven walks, a team-high 21 runs scored and six RBI. Gaber has a .328 slugging percentage, a .331 on-base percentage and a .930 fielding percentage.

 

Junior infielder Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting .299 with 32 hits, four doubles, five walks, nine runs scored and 12 RBI. Machado owns a .336 slugging percentage, a .336 on-base percentage and a .859 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Crystal OíConnell (Somerset, MA) has played in 27 games, starting all of them. She is batting .200 with nine hits, two doubles, three walks, eight runs scored and three RBI. O'Connell owns a .244 slugging percentage, a .250 on-base percentage and a .963 fielding percentage.

 

Junior catcher Rachael Caldwell (Richmond, RI) has played in 33 games, starting all of them. She is batting .277 with 26 hits, three doubles, nine walks, 14 runs scored and eight RBI. Caldwell owns a .309 slugging percentage, a .352 on-base percentage and a .981 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) has played in 31 games, starting 28 of them. She is batting .273 with 21 hits, one double, one triple, two walks, ten runs scored and 11 RBI. Lyons owns a .312 slugging percentage, a .288 on-base percentage and a .967 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in 14 games, starting five of them. She is batting .143 with two hits and two runs scored. Sitnik owns a .143 slugging percentage, a .143 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Katelyn Labelle (South Dartmouth, MA) has played in 34 games, starting all of them. She is batting .167 with 12 hits, two doubles, ten walks, eight runs scored and seven RBI. Labelle owns a .194 slugging percentage, a .268 on-base percentage and a .964 fielding percentage.

 

Senior outfielder Hollie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 20 games, starting 13 of them. She is batting .136 with three hits, two walks, four runs scored and two RBI. Benevides owns a .136 slugging percentage, a .208 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 12 games, starting ten of them.

 

Sophomore infielder Alyssa Severino (Taunton, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. She is batting .167 with one hit. Severino owns a .167 slugging percentage, a .167 on-base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will conclude its regular season with a doubleheader at Johnson & Wales on Tuesday, Apr. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
