Rhode Island College Softball Update #6

(21-14-1 Overall; 9-5 in the Little East)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Maria Morinís team was eliminated from the 2004 Little East Conference Softball Tournament with two losses on Apr. 30. Second-seeded RIC lost to third-seeded Western Connecticut, 6-4, in its first game, then fell to fifth-seeded Eastern Connecticut, 5-0, in the second game.

 

The Anchorwomen are currently 21-14-1 overall and finished the regular season with a 9-5 (second place) mark in the Little East Conference. RIC is the sixth-seed and will travel to New London, CT to face third-seeded Coast Guard in the opening round of the ECAC New England Div. III Softball Tournament on Wednesday, May 5.

 

Freshman catcher/infielder Kristyn Alexander (East Wareham, MA) has played in 36 games, starting all of them. She is batting a team-best .348 with a team-high 40 hits, five doubles and 20 RBI. Alexander also has eight walks, 12 runs scored, a .391 slugging percentage, a .384 on-base percentage and a .962 fielding percentage.

 

Senior pitcher/designated player Kim Warrington (North Kingstown, RI) has played in 27 games, starting 23 of them. She is batting .286 with 20 hits, four doubles, two home runs, seven walks, five runs and 11 RBI. Warrington owns a team-best .429 slugging percentage, a .351 on-base percentage and a .925 fielding percentage. On the mound, Warrington has appeared in 26 games, starting 18 of them. She owns an 11-7 record with a 2.04 ERA. In 137.0 innings pitched, she has struck out a team-high 169 batters.

 

Freshman pitcher/designated player Nicole Riley (North Providence, RI) has played in 25 games, starting 23 of them. She is batting .344 with 21 hits, two doubles, one triple, five walks, five runs scored and ten RBI. Riley owns a .410 slugging percentage, a .394 on-base percentage and a .900 fielding percentage. On the mound, Riley has appeared in 20 games, starting 18 of them. She owns a 10-7 record with a team-best 2.01 ERA. In 104.2 innings pitched, she has struck out 94 batters.

 

Sophomore outfielder Megan Ponte (Wakefield, RI) has played in 36 games, starting 35 of them. She is batting .301 with 34 hits, three doubles, a team-high three triples, ten walks, 21 runs scored and 11 RBI. Ponte owns a .381 slugging percentage, a .358 on-base percentage and a .895 fielding percentage.

 

Senior outfielder Sue Gaber (Colchester, CT) has played in 36 games, starting all of them. She is batting .281 with 36 hits, four doubles, eight walks, 21 runs scored and six RBI. Gaber has a .313 slugging percentage, a .321 on-base percentage and a .935 fielding percentage.

 

Junior third baseman Amy Machado (Newport, RI) has played in 36 games, starting all of them. She is batting .292 with 33 hits, four doubles, five walks, nine runs scored and 12 RBI. Machado owns a .327 slugging percentage, a .328 on-base percentage and a .862 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman shortstop Crystal OíConnell (Somerset, MA) has played in 29 games, starting all of them. She is batting .200 with nine hits, two doubles, three walks, eight runs scored and three RBI. O'Connell owns a .244 slugging percentage, a .250 on-base percentage and a .944 fielding percentage.

 

Junior catcher Rachael Caldwell (Richmond, RI) has played in 35 games, starting all of them. She is batting .257 with 26 hits, three doubles, nine walks, 15 runs scored and eight RBI. Caldwell owns a .287 slugging percentage, a .330 on-base percentage and a .982 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman second baseman Casie Lyons (Hudson, MA) has played in 33 games, starting 30 of them. She is batting .268 with 22 hits, one double, one triple, two walks, ten runs scored and 12 RBI. Lyons owns a .305 slugging percentage, a .282 on-base percentage and a .961 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Andree Sitnik (Lincoln, RI) has played in 16 games, starting five of them. She is batting .143 with two hits and three runs scored. Sitnik owns a .143 slugging percentage, a .143 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Freshman infielder Katelyn Labelle (South Dartmouth, MA) has played in 36 games, starting all of them. She is batting .182 with 14 hits, two doubles, ten walks, eight runs scored and nine RBI. Labelle owns a .208 slugging percentage, a .276 on-base percentage and a .961 fielding percentage.

 

Senior outfielder Hollie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 21 games, starting 14 of them. She is batting .125 with three hits, two walks, four runs scored and two RBI. Benevides owns a .125 slugging percentage, a .192 on-base percentage and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

 

Sophomore outfielder Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) has played in 13 games, starting ten of them.

 

Sophomore infielder Alyssa Severino (Taunton, MA) has played in six games, starting all of them. She is batting .167 with one hit. Severino owns a .167 slugging percentage, a .167 on-base percentage and a .857 fielding percentage. Severino injured her shoulder during the team's trip to California and is out for the season.
