Hogan and Normandin to Captain
Rhode Island College Womenís Gymnastics


Providence, RIóRhode Island College juniors Michaela Hogan (Warwick, RI) and Caren Normandin (Fall River, MA) will captain the womenís gymnastics team for the 2003-04 season.


Hogan, an all-around specialist, redshirted last season. As a sophomore in 2001-02, she injured her knee while competing on beam at the ECAC Championships and was lost for the remainder of the season. Hogan was averaging scores of 8.243 on vault, 8.014 on bars, 7.517 on beam, 8.383 on floor and 32.650 in the all-around on the season. Her season-high marks were as follows: 8.650 on vault at the Brockport Invitational; 8.750 on bars and 8.700 on floor vs. MIT/Bridgeport; 8.150 on beam at the Ithaca Invitational; 33.400 in the all-around vs. Springfield/Southern Connecticut.


She is an biology major and a 2000 graduate of Toll Gate High School.


As a sophomore in 2002-03, Normandin, an all-around specialist, qualified for the 2003 NCGA Championships in the all-around. It was Normandinís second trip to the National Championships. She placed 24th on the vault, 54th on bars, 16th on beam, 40th on floor and 15th in the all-around. Her 9.475 score on beam at the ECAC Championships tied the highest mark in RIC history on that event.


She is an elementary education major, with a special education minor, and a 2001 graduate of Durfee High School.


Head Coach Bob Nannigís team opens the season at Wilson College with Ursinus and MIT on Saturday, January 17 at 1 p.m.
