Warren’s Kyle Teixeira Earns Second Team
All-New England Honors in Men’s Soccer

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College sophomore forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) was named Second Team All-New England for his performance in men’s soccer this fall. Teixeira was a Fourth Team All-New England selection a year ago (2002) as a freshman.

As a sophomore in 2003, he was named First Team All-Little East Conference for the second consecutive season. Teixeira played in 20 games, starting 19 of them. He had 24 goals, seven game-winners, and six assists for 54 points this season. Teixeira’s 24 goals were a new RIC record for a single season. Teixeira ranks second in career goals (42) and career points (95) at RIC. He finished the year one point shy of the RIC single-season record for points.

Teixeira closed out the ’03 campaign tied for fourth in the nation in goals per game (1.20) and was eighth in points per game (2.70)

He is a physical education major and a 2002 graduate of Mt. Hope High School.

Head Coach Len Mercurio’s team finished the 2003 season with an 11-9 overall record and a 5-2 (third place) finish in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen were in first place for much of the year until the final weekend of the regular season. RIC received a berth in the ECAC Div. III Tournament for the first time since 1982 and fell in the opening round to top-seeded Roger Williams, 4-3, on Nov. 12.
