ANCHORWOMEN WIN DOUBLE OVERTIME THRILLER, 84-83

Providence, RI—Freshman forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) nailed two clutch free throws with 5.1 seconds remaining in the second overtime to lift Rhode Island College past Plymouth State, 84-83, in collegiate women’s basketball action. The Panthers had a chance to win at the buzzer, but junior forward Lauren Devereaux’s  (Hope Valley, RI) last second attempt rimmed out.

Geisler had 29 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Anchorwomen who improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Little East. It was the fourth consecutive victory for RIC and the win over PSU snaps a nine-game losing streak to the Panthers dating back to 1999.  Junior forward Heather Pettigrew (Cranston, RI) also posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

PSU falls to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Little East. Senior guard Mandi Allen (Blue Hill, ME) scored 22 points and grabbed 11 boards in a losing effort.

In upcoming action, RIC will host Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Dec. 13, while the Panthers will host UMass-Dartmouth. Both games will tip-off at 1 p.m.
