Rhode Island College Menís Basketball Update #4

(3-5 Overall, 1-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kellyís team is 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen had a busy week, playing three games in five days. RIC defeated Johnson & Wales, 81-69, on Dec. 9, lost a close contest at Newbury College, 82-79, on Dec. 11, then defeated LEC foe Eastern Connecticut, 94-69, in the Anchormenís home-opener on Dec. 13.

 

Senior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He is averaging 14.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Alemdar scored a team-high 17 points in RICís victory over Johnson & Wales and a team-best 23 points vs. Eastern Connecticut. For his efforts last week, Alemdar was named to the Little East Conference Menís Basketball Honor Roll.

 

Freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in eight games, starting seven of them. He is averaging a team-high 14.4 points and 4.1 assists per game, along with 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest. His average of 14.3 points, 6.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds last week earned Williams his third Little East Conference Menís Basketball Rookie of the Week honors.

 

Senior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in eight games, starting three of them. He is averaging 8.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game with a team-high 11 steals.

 

Freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield, CT) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is averaging 8.8 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game. Zalucki leads the team with 13 blocks. He grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds in the victory over Eastern Connecticut, the most by a RIC player in a game so far this winter.

 

Sophomore forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in eight games, starting all of them. He is averaging 10.0 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has played in seven games, starting six of them. He is averaging 3.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in seven games, starting one of them. He is averaging 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in eight games. He is averaging 3.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

 

Sophomore guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in four games. He is averaging 1.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in eight games. He is averaging 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in eight games. He is averaging 1.1 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played six games. He is averaging 4.3 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in six games. He is averaging 2.7 points per game.

 

RIC is off for finals and the Christmas Break. The Anchormen will resume the season at the College of Staten Island Holiday Tournament on Dec. 27-28.
