Rhode Island College Men’s Basketball Update #5

(4-6 Overall, 1-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kelly’s team is 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen took a break for finals and the Christmas holidays, from Dec. 15-26, and then resumed the season at the College of Staten Island’s Tournament of Heroes on Dec. 27 and 28. RIC faced 7-1 Kean University in the opening game, and fell, 72-57, to the Cougars. RIC rebounded to defeat St. Joseph’s (LI), 104-64, in the consolation game to earn its fourth victory of the ’03-04 campaign.

 

Freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He is averaging a team-high 13.9 points, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game, along with 3.0 rebounds per contest. Williams scored 14 points, grabbed three boards and dished out four assists in the win over St. Joseph’s (LI). He has been named the Little East Conference’s Rookie of the Week three times on the season.

 

Senior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in ten games, starting nine of them. He is averaging 13.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Alemdar scored 18 points in the win over St. Joseph’s (LI).

 

Senior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in ten games, starting three of them. He is averaging 8.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

 

Freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield, CT) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He is averaging 9.4 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game. Zalucki leads the team with 17 blocks, an average of 1.7 per contest. He scored a career-high 20 points with nine boards and three blocks in the win over St. Joseph’s (LI).

 

Sophomore forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in ten games, starting all of them. He is averaging 10.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Stanko scored a team-high 12 points and snared four rebounds in the loss to Kean.

 

Sophomore guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has played in nine games, starting eight of them. He is averaging 4.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.

 

Freshman center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played eight games. He is averaging 4.9 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in nine games, starting one of them. He is averaging 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in ten games. He is averaging 4.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

 

Sophomore guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in six games. He is averaging 1.0 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in ten games. He is averaging 3.2 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in ten games. He is averaging 1.6 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in eight games. He is averaging 2.5 points per game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host Bridgewater State on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. The Anchormen will resume the Little East Conference schedule at home against UMass-Boston on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3 p.m.
