Rhode Island College Wrestling Update #4

(4-4 Overall; 2-1 in the NECCWA; 0-0 in the Pilgrim League)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Jonesí team is 4-4 overall, 2-1 in the New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) and 0-0 in the Pilgrim League. RIC headed south after Christmas for their annual trip to the Citrus Invitational and Duals in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on Dec. 29-30.

 

The Anchormen placed tenth (14 teams) with 45.5 points at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29. Simpson College won the event with 153.0 points. RIC then competed in four dual meets on Dec. 30. RIC went 2-2, defeating Concordia, 22-21, and Wilmington, 24-17, while falling to Lawrence, 27-12, and Case Western Reserve, 19-17.

 

RIC returned to take part in a quad-meet, hosted by Williams, on Sunday, Jan. 4. RIC opened up with a loss against Simpson, 43-3, defeated host Williams, 24-23, and fell to Norwich, 20-13, to close out the day. The Anchormen are currently ranked seventh in this week's New England Division II Poll.

 

Junior Justin Deveau (North Attleboro, MA) is ranked first in New England at 285 lbs. He is  21-2 at 285 lbs. with 89 points, 28 takedowns, seven reversals, 15 escapes, nine near-falls and four pins. Deveau went 4-0 at the Citrus Invitational and defeated two nationally ranked opponents on his way to the title. He defeated fifth-ranked Drew Reinecker from McDaniel College (5-2) in the finals after beating fourth-ranked Brett Christensen from Simpson College (3-2) earlier in the day. He placed third at the RIT Invitational on Dec. 6, third at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 22 and first at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 15. Deveau is currently ranked first in New England at 285 lbs. and has a ten-match winning streak.

 

Junior Keith Nelson (Rhinebeck, NY) is ranked fourth in New England at 174 lbs. He is 23-8 at 174 lbs. with 86 points, 52 takedowns, three reversals, 34 escapes, 14 near-falls and five pins. He placed fourth at the RIT Invitational on Dec. 6, third at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 23 and fifth at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 15. Nelson currently has a seven-match winning streak.

 

Sophomore Todd Bloom (Wantagh, NY) is 13-10 at 133 lbs. with 63 points, 23 takedowns, seven reversals, 22 escapes, 14 near-falls and four pins. He placed fifth at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 15.

 

Sophomore Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) is 12-9 at 165 lbs. with 47 points, 19 takedowns, nine reversals, 15 escapes, 12 near-falls and three pins.

 

Junior Walter Borden (Pawtucket, RI) is 11-6 at 165 lbs. with 47 points, 25 takedowns, six reversals, 16 escapes, nine near-falls and four pins.

 

Junior Luke Emmons (West Greenwich, RI) is 13-10 at 141 lbs. with 53 points, 27 takedowns, 11 reversals, 25 escapes, 16 near-falls and four pins. He placed fifth at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 15.

 

Freshman Mike Bonora (Nutley, NJ) is ranked second in New England at 141 lbs. He is 9-4 at 141 lbs. with 34 points, 39 takedowns, eight reversals, 16 escapes, six near-falls and one pin. He placed second at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 15.

 

Junior Allyn Quibble (Ledyard, CT) is 7-7 at 149 lbs. with 38 points, 16 takedowns, five reversals, eight escapes, seven near-falls and five pins.

 

Freshman Olutosin Taylor (Copiague, NY) is 6-4 at 197 lbs. with 27 points, 17 takedowns, six reversals, 12 escapes, nine near-falls and three pins.

 

Junior Matt Kelly (Carver, MA) is 5-9 at 149 lbs. with 27 points, four takedowns, one reversal, 14 escapes and two near-falls and three pins.

 

Freshman Ray Hanley (Wantagh, NY) is 8-10 at 125 lbs. with 36 points, nine takedowns, ten reversals, 15 escapes, six near-falls and four pins.

 

Junior Eddy German (Providence, RI) is 4-5 at 125 lbs. With 13 points, 21 takedowns, two reversals and nine escapes.

 

Sophomore Richard Chute (Wrentham, MA) is 5-8 at 141 lbs. with 21 points, 14 takedowns, three reversal, 23 escapes, four near-falls and one pin.

 

Junior Ryan Klupt (Miller Place, NY) is 3-16 at 184 lbs. with 12 points, 12 takedowns, five reversals and 20 escapes.

 

Junior Andre LaBonte (Harrisville, RI) is 3-2 at 285 lbs. with 12 points, three takedowns, five escapes and one pin.

 

Senior Giovanni Calise (Cranston, RI) is 2-5 at 197 lbs. with 12 points, one takedown, one reversal and two pins.

 

Senior Radbeh Torabi (Cranston, RI) is 2-6 at 174 lbs. with ten points, five takedowns, one reversal, four escapes and two near-falls.

 

Junior Dan Fortner (Mystic, CT) is 3-6 at 157 lbs. with nine points, eight takedowns, 15 escapes and two near-falls.

 

Junior Dave Paquette (Ledyard, CT) is 3-4 at 157 lbs. with nine points, ten takedowns, four reversals and six escapes.

 

Freshman Ricky Boyle (North Attleboro, MA) is 0-5 at 165 lbs. with three takedowns and 16 escapes.

 

Freshman Ian Coyne (Amston, CT) is 7-9 at 165 lbs. with 23 points, ten takedowns, two reversals and 31 escapes.

 

Freshman Ryan DeSisto (Warwick, RI) is 1-3 at 149 lbs. with six points, one takedown, one reversal, two escapes and one pin.

 

Freshman Tim Donnelly (Stamford, CT) is 0-1 at 197 lbs. with one escape.

 

Freshman Eric Martell (Chepachet, RI) is 0-2 at 184 lbs. with six escapes.

 

Freshman Chris Murray (Ardsley, NY) is 4-6 at 133 lbs. with 18 points, 10 takedowns, three reversals, seven escapes, three near-falls and two pins.

 

Freshman Colin Smith (Wading River, NY) is 0-6 at 149 lbs. with four takedowns and nine escapes.

 

Freshman Mark Smith (Warwick, RI) is 0-7 at 285 lbs. with one reversal and three escapes.
