Rhode Island College Men’s Basketball Update #6

(5-7 Overall, 2-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kelly’s team is 5-7 overall and 2-0 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen split two games last week. RIC was defeated, 87-75, at Bridgewater State on Jan. 8 but rebounded to defeat LEC foe UMass-Boston, 89-65, on Jan. 10 to remain unbeaten in conference play.

 

Freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 10 of them. He is averaging 12.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. Williams scored 10 points and dished out eight assists win at UMass-Boston. He has been named the Little East Conference’s Rookie of the Week four times on the season.

 

Junior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has joined the team for the second semester. He has played in two games, starting one of them. He is averaging 11.0 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game. Harris scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds versus Bridgewater State.

 

Senior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging a team-high 14.6 points, while also contributing 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Alemdar scored a team-high 22 points in the win over UMass- Boston and poured in 20 versus Bridgewater State. For his efforts, he was named to the Little East Conference’s Weekly Honor Roll.

 

Senior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in 12 games, starting four of them. He is averaging 7.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.

 

Freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield, CT) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging 9.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Zalucki leads the team with 21 blocks, an average of 1.8 per contest. Zalucki was named the Little East Conference’s Rookie of the Week after averaging 11.0 points, four rebounds and 2.0 blocks in a 1-1 week for the Anchormen.

 

Sophomore forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging 9.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has played in 11 games, starting ten of them. He is averaging 5.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and a team-high 4.4 assists per game.

 

Freshman center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played ten games. He is averaging 4.5 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in ten games, starting one of them. He is averaging 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 12 games. He is averaging 4.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

 

Freshman forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 12 games. He is averaging 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 12 games. He is averaging 1.7 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in ten games. He is averaging 2.5 points per game.

 

Sophomore guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in seven games. He is averaging 0.9 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will face two LEC rivals this coming week. The Anchormen will first travel to the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m., then will return home to host Keene State on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m.
