Women’s Basketball Update #8

(10-6 Overall, 4-3 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 10-6 overall and 4-3 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen split two LEC road games in last week’s action. RIC was defeated, 84-74, by UMass-Dartmouth on Jan. 20, but rebounded to defeat Plymouth State, 89-71, on Jan. 15. The victory over the Panthers completes the first regular-season sweep of PSU since the 1997-98 season.

 

Freshman forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) is out of action indefinitely with a leg injury. Geisler has played in 14 games, starting nine of them. She leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

 

Senior forward Liz Shields (Warwick, RI) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 8.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Shields leads the team with 35 steals, averaging 2.2 per game. Shields scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards in the victory over Plymouth State. She needs 35 points to become the tenth player in Rhode Island College history to score 1,000 or more points.

 

Junior forward Heather Pettigrew (Cranston, RI) has played in 16 games, starting six of them. She is averaging 8.9 points, 7.4 rebounds per game and 1.3 assists per game. Pettigrew is second on the team with 31 steals, an average of 1.9 per game.

 

Freshman forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) has played in 16 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 6.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. She scored ten points and was one rebound shy of a double-double in the win over Plymouth State.

 

Freshman forward Caitlin Ryan (Chepachet, RI) has played in eight games, starting one of them, since joining the team second semester. She is averaging 7.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Ryan scored a team and career-high 22 points, while also grabbing nine rebounds, in the win over Plymouth State.

 

Freshman guard Lisa Ranzoni (Lee, MA) has played in 16 games. She is averaging 8.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Ranzoni scored 13 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double in the victory over Plymouth State.

 

Senior guard Abby Ferri (Coventry, RI) has played in 15 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 5.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and a team-high 2.5 assists per game. Ferri grabbed a season-high seven rebounds in the victory over Plymouth State.

 

Sophomore guard Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 14 games, starting nine of them. She is averaging 4.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Nix had her second double-figure scoring game of the season as she contributed ten points in the win over Plymouth State.

 

Sophomore forward Liz Barrette (North Providence, RI) has played in 11 games. She is averaging 2.3 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. Barrette put in a season-high eight points, on 4-4 shooting, in the victory over Plymouth State.

 

Senior guard Rachel Pecoraro (Smithfield, RI) has played in 12 games, starting one of them. She is averaging 1.5 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Jan Garvin (Johnston, RI) has played in seven games. She is averaging 1.0 points and 0.4 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) has played in five games. She is averaging 1.8 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Junior guard Alyson St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) has played in 13 games. She is averaging 1.6 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will host Western Connecticut State on Tuesday, Jan.27 at 5:30 p.m. and Newbury College on Thursday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. then travel to face Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.
