Rhode Island College Men’s Indoor Track Update #6

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team competed at the University of Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 31. RIC placed fourth (seven teams) with a team score of 61.0. Bates College won the meet with a score of 220.25.

 

Senior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.35. Rudd placed third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:34.42 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:41.10 and second in the 500 meters with a time of 1:08.39 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.60 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:26.60 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed first in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:36.67 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.99. Karngar placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 23.31 and second in the 400 meters with a time of 50.37 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He broke two school-records by finishing first in the 200 meters with a time of 23.14 and first in the 500 meters with a time of 1:05.53 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17.

 

Junior Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) placed sixth in the shot and seventh in the weight throw with distances of 39'09.00" and 44'08.00", respectively. Piette placed 15th in the shot with a distance of 12.22 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fifth in shot with a distance of 37’03.75” and second in the weight throw with a distance of 45’10.00” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 41’06.50” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 13.40 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 46’00.50” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Nick Palazzo (Providence, RI) placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 43'11.75". Palazzo finished 11th in the weight throw with a distance of 13.28 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan, 24. He placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 44’11.50” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.15 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 43’07.75” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Sophomore Richard Palazzo (Providence, RI) placed 12th in the weight throw with a distance of 38'08.75". Palazzo placed 17th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.97 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 41’01.00” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 14th in the weight throw with a distance of 37’09.50” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 16th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.63 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 34’05.00” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Junior Josh Precourt (Woonsocket, RI) placed eighth in the 200 meters and fifth in the 400 meters with times of 25.11 and 54.20, respectively. Precourt placed 16th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.68 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 24.73 and ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 55:26 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 24th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.77 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 19th in the 400 meters with a time of 55.28 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.81 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Jam Luong (Millbury, MA) placed seventh in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump with leaps of 18'07.25" and 38'02.50", respectively. Luong tied for 14th place in the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters and was sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.83 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished third in the long jump with a distance of 18’09.75” and third in the triple jump with a distance of 39’03.25” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 15th in the long jump with a distance of 17’10.75” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.58 meters and 28th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.13 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.14 and sixth in the long jump with a mark of 17’07.00” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Andy Neil (Warwick, RI) placed sixth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:31.17. Neil placed 22nd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.78 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fourth in the 500 meters with a time of 1:12.17 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 25th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.79 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 14th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.79. He placed second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:47.46 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Tim Goodwin (Warwick, RI) placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:26.06. Goodwin finished 32nd in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:28.51 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed sixth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:48.43 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 11th in the mile with a time of 4:44.56 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:43.03 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Senior Mike Basilico (Johnston, RI) placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:52.38. Basilico placed 37th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:32.94 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:55.31 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed 11th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:58.46 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Chris Matteson (Wood River Junction, RI) placed tenth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.96. Matteson tied for 19th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.67 and tenth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.91 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 16th in the preliminary round of the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 and 40th in the 400 meters with a time of 58.44 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished eighth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.49 and 27th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.06 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.06 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) placed second in the high jump with an effort of 6'02.00". Newman finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.83 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5’10.00” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished sixth in the high jump with a mark of 6’01.25” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed third in the high jump with mark of 6’02.00” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman Matt Goroza (West Warwick, RI) placed ninth in the preliminary round of the 55 meters, 14th in the 200 meters and 13th in the 400 meters with times of 7.29, 26.00, and 57.66, respectively. Goroza finished 40th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.77 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed 15th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.80 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 37th in the prelims of the 55 meters with a time of 7.36 and 41st in the 400 meters with a time of 59.29 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed 32nd in the 60 meters with a time of 7.64 and 29th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.47 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13.

 

Freshman Javon Partin (Providence, RI) placed 17th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:11.20 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan 24. He finished seventh in the 500 meters with a time of 1:14.71 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 20th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.59 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 11th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.46 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:47.46 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Freshman John Martinelli (North Providence, RI) finished 21st in the 400 meters with a time of 55.51 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.28 and 12th in the 400 meters with a time of 56.08 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 33rd in the prelims of the 55 meters with a time of 7.17 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed 16th in the 60 meters with a time of 7.60 and 16th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.59 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13.

 

Freshman Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) placed 16th in the mile with a time of 4:41.55 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished tenth in the mile with a time of 4:39.81 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:36.62 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

Junior Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.27 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:32.22 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

 

RIC has this weekend off. The Anchormen will compete at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Rhode Island College Gymnastics Update #2

(2-4 Overall; 2-4 in the ECAC)

 

Providence, RI--Head Coach Bob Nannig’s team saw their first action in almost two weeks when the Anchorwomen traveled to SUNY-Cortland for a quad-meet with SUNY-Brockport and Springfield, three of the toughest teams in the ECAC on Saturday, Jan. 31.

 

RIC posted a team score of 174.025, which was short of Springfield's 181.600, Cortland's 181.700 and Brockport's 182.050. The Anchorwomen are now 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the ECAC.

 

Junior Caren Normandin (Fall River, MA) is averaging scores of 9.263 on vault, 8.488 on bars, 9.450 on beam, 9.238 on floor and 36.413 in the all-around. Normandin posted the squad's highest marks on vault (9.275), beam (9.400), floor (9.150) and in the all-around (36.100) at the Cortland quad-meet.

 

Freshman Hannah Scott (Deep River, CT) is averaging scores of 8.750 on vault, 8.438 on bars, 8.750 on beam, 8.600 on floor and 34.675 in the all-around.

 

Freshman Megan Joseph (Hope, RI) is averaging scores of 8.700 on vault, 7.400 on bars, 8.325 on beam, 8.700 on floor and 33.300 in the all-around.

 

Freshman Melissa Jones (Cranston, RI) is averaging scores of 9.050 on vault, 7.400 on bars, 7.900 on beam, 8.700 on floor and 32.900 in the all-around.

 

Junior Michaela Hogan (Warwick, RI) is averaging scores of 8.750 on vault, 8.338 on bars and 8.538 on floor. Hogan posted the team's top bars score (8.725) at the Cortland quad-meet.

 

Freshman Kristina Lemanis (Smithtown, NY) is averaging a score of 8.000 on bars.

 

Sophomore Cristy Pforr (Pembroke, MA) is averaging scores of 8.588 on vault, 8.350 on beam and 8.075 on floor.

 

Freshman Cassie O’Blenis (Warren, RI) is averaging a score of 6.400 on bars.

 

Junior Staci Freedman (Raynham, MA) is averaging a score of 9.100 on beam.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at Div. II Bridgeport on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.
