Rhode Island College Menís Basketball Update #9

(7-12 Overall, 4-5 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kellyís team is 7-12 overall and 4-5 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen split two LEC contests, going 1-1, this past week. RIC defeated Western Connecticut, 82-76, on Jan. 27 and dropped a close contest at Eastern Connecticut, 77-76, on Jan. 31.

 

Senior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 19 games, starting 18 of them. He is averaging a team-high 13.8 points, while also contributing 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Alemdar poured in a team-high 21 points in the loss at Eastern Connecticut. He now has scored in double-figures for five consecutive games. For his efforts last week, Alemdar was a member of this week's Little East Honor Roll.

 

Freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 19 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 11.4 points and 2.6 rebounds, while contributing a team-high 71 assists and 35 steals.

 

Junior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in nine games, starting three of them. He is averaging 9.7 points and a team-best 6.4 rebounds per game. Harris tallied a double-double versus Eastern Connecticut by scoring ten points and grabbing ten rebounds.

 

Senior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in 19 games, starting five of them. He is averaging 6.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

 

Freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield, CT) has played in 19 games, starting 16 of them. He is averaging 8.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and a team-best 1.5 blocks per game.

 

Sophomore forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in 19 games, starting 17 of them. He is averaging 9.3 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Stanko scored 14 points versus Eastern Connecticut.

 

Sophomore guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging 5.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and a team-high 4.5 assists per game. Grandfield is currently out of action indefinitely with a wrist injury.

 

Freshman guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 19 games, starting four of them. He is averaging 5.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.

 

Freshman center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played 17 games. He is averaging 4.8 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 17 games, starting six of them. He is averaging 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 15 games. He is averaging 2.8 points per game and 0.5 assists per game.

 

Freshman forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 17 games. He is averaging 2.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 15 games, starting three of them. He is averaging 1.8 points and 1.0 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in eight games. He is averaging 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host two games this week. First, the Anchormen take on Salve Regina on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m., then welcome LEC foe UMass-Boston to The Murray Center on Saturday, Feb 7 at 3 p.m.
