Women’s Basketball Update #9

(11-8 Overall, 4-5 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen dropped two of their three games this past week. There were two LEC losses, Western Connecticut, 57-54 on Jan. 27 and seventh-ranked Eastern Connecticut, 98-67, on Jan. 31, with a non-conference victory over Newbury, 79-50 on Jan. 29 sandwiched in between.

 

Freshman forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) is out of action indefinitely with a leg injury. Geisler has played in 14 games, starting nine of them. She leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.

 

Senior forward Liz Shields (Warwick, RI) has played in 19 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 8.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Shields leads the team with 42 steals, averaging 2.2 per game. She needs just 15 points to become the tenth player in Rhode Island College history to score 1,000 or more points.

 

Junior forward Heather Pettigrew (Cranston, RI) has played in 19 games, starting six of them. She is averaging 9.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Pettigrew scored a season-high 16 points in the loss versus Eastern Connecticut.

 

Freshman forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) has played in 19 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 6.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Rosen recorded her first career double-double, 12 points and ten rebounds, in the victory over Newbury. In last week’s three contests, she averaged 8.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman forward Caitlin Ryan (Chepachet, RI) has played in 11 games, starting four of them, since joining the team second semester. She is averaging 8.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. In last week’s three contests, she averaged 10.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Lisa Ranzoni (Lee, MA) has played in 19 games. She is third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.7 points per game while also contributing 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Ranzoni scored a team-high 16 points in the loss to Western Connecticut.

 

Senior guard Abby Ferri (Coventry, RI) has played in 18 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 5.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and a team-high 2.4 assists per game. Ferri scored a season-high 17 points, while also grabbing five rebounds, in the loss to seventh-ranked Eastern Connecticut.

 

Sophomore guard Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 17 games, starting 12 of them. She is averaging 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Nix had a career night versus Newbury as she scored a career-best 18 points and grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.

 

Sophomore forward Liz Barrette (North Providence, RI) has played in 14 games. She is averaging 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

 

Senior guard Rachel Pecoraro (Smithfield, RI) has played in 14 games, starting one of them. She is averaging 1.6 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Jan Garvin (Johnston, RI) has played in eight games. She is averaging 0.9 points and 0.4 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) has played in seven games. She is averaging 1.7 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Junior guard Alyson St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) has played in 16 games. She is averaging 1.6 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will travel to Worcester State College on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. before heading home to host UMass-Boston on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
