Rhode Island College Menís Basketball Update #10

(9-12 Overall, 5-5 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kellyís team is 9-12 overall and 5-5 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen went undefeated in their two contests last week, both in The Murray Center, defeating Salve Regina, 68-64, on Feb. 3 and LEC foe UMass-Boston, 71-56, on Feb. 7.

 

Senior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 21 games, starting 20 of them. He is averaging a team-high 13.5 points, while also contributing 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. Alemdar poured in 16 points, along with five rebounds and four assists in the victory over UMass-Boston. He now has scored in double figures in 15 of his 21 games.

 

Freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 21 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 10.7 points and 2.4 rebounds, while contributing a team-high 74 assists and 37 steals.

 

Junior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in 11 games, starting three of them. He is averaging 9.9 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds per game. In the two games last week, Harris averaged 11.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest.

 

Sophomore forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in 21 games, starting 19 of them. He is averaging 9.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Stanko scored 14 points versus Salve Regina.

 

Senior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in 21 games, starting five of them. He is averaging 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

 

Freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield, CT) has played in 21 games, starting 18 of them. He is averaging 7.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and a team-best 1.5 blocks per game.

 

Sophomore guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging 5.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and a team-high 4.5 assists per game. Grandfield is currently out of action indefinitely with a wrist injury.

 

Freshman guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 21 games, starting six of them. He is averaging 6.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. In the two games last week, Durgin averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest. He nailed two free throws late versus Salve Regina to secure the victory over the Seahawks. Durgin also netted three straight three-point baskets to squelch a second-half rally by UMass-Boston and give RIC the win. He scored a team-high 18 points with four rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win. For his efforts, Durgin was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week.

 

Freshman center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played 19 games. He is averaging 4.3 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 19 games, starting eight of them. He is averaging 3.9 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 17 games. He is averaging 2.8 points per game and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 19 games. He is averaging 2.2 points, 2.3 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 13 blocks.

 

Sophomore forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 16 games, starting three of them. He is averaging 1.7 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in nine games. He is averaging 1.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host two LEC games this week. First, the Anchormen take on UMass-Dartmouth Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m., then welcome Southern Maine to The Murray Center on Saturday, Feb 14 at 3 p.m.
