Women’s Basketball Update #10

(13-8 Overall, 5-5 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 13-8 overall and 5-5 in the Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen finished last week with a 2-0 record. The first victory was at Worcester State, 54-45, on Feb. 5, then the Anchorwomen defeated LEC foe UMass-Boston at home, 94-65, on Feb. 7. In the victory over UMB, senior forward Liz Shields (Warwick, RI) scored her 1,000th career point, making her just the tenth player in Rhode Island College women’s basketball history to reach that plateau.

 

Shields has played in 21 games, starting all of them, this season. She is averaging 8.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Shields leads the team with 46 steals, averaging 2.2 per game. Along with scoring her 1,000th point versus UMass-Boston, she scored ten points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists.

 

Freshman forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) has returned from a leg injury that sidelined her for five games. Geisler has played in 16 games, starting nine of them. She leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

 

Junior forward Heather Pettigrew (Cranston, RI) has played in 21 games, starting seven of them. She is averaging 9.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

 

Freshman forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) has played in 21 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 7.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Rosen scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win over UMass-Boston.

 

Freshman forward Caitlin Ryan (Chepachet, RI) has played in 13 games, starting six of them, since joining the team second semester. She is averaging 8.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. In last week’s two contests, she averaged 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Ryan has now scored in double figures the past four games.

 

Freshman guard Lisa Ranzoni (Lee, MA) has played in 21 games. She is averaging 8.9 points per game while also contributing 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Ranzoni scored a co-team-high 13 points in victory over UMass-Boston.

 

Senior guard Abby Ferri (Coventry, RI) has played in 20 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and a team-high 2.3 assists per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) has played in 19 games, starting 13 of them. She is averaging 5.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Nix scored 12 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in the victory over UMass-Boston.

 

Sophomore forward Liz Barrette (North Providence, RI) has played in 15 games. She is averaging 2.1 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.

 

Senior guard Rachel Pecoraro (Smithfield, RI) has played in 15 games, starting one of them. She is averaging 1.5 points and 0.8 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Jan Garvin (Johnston, RI) has played in nine games. She is averaging 1.0 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) has played in eight games. She is averaging 2.0 points and 0.6 rebounds per game.

 

Junior guard Alyson St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) has played in 18 games. She is averaging 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will host two LEC games this week. First, the Anchorwomen take on UMass-Dartmouth Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m., then welcome Southern Maine to The Murray Center on Saturday, Feb 14 at 1 p.m.
