Second-Ranked Southern Maine Defeat Anchorwomen

            Providence, RI—The Second-Ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen, 84-46, in collegiate women’s basketball action. With the victory, USM improves to 22-1 and a perfect 12-0 in conference action, while the loss drops RIC to 14-9 overall and 6-6 in LEC play.

 

USM pulled away early as it built a 31-point halftime lead. The Huskies had four players score in double figures, led by sophomore forward Tiffany Jones (Skowhegan, ME) who had a game-high 19 points. Sophomore forward Megan Myles (Turner, ME) was the only player to record a double-double, as she scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high ten rebounds.

 

RIC was led by freshman forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) who scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed a co-team-best six rebounds in a losing effort. Also, this afternoon's game was preceded by Senior Day ceremonies honoring Abby Ferri (Coventry, RI), Rachel Pecoraro (Smithfield, RI) and Liz Shields (Warwick, RI).

 

In upcoming action, RIC will play at Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. The Huskies will play at Plymouth State on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
