Rhode Island College Menís Basketball Update #11

(11-12 Overall, 7-5 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kellyís team is 11-12 overall and 6-5 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen went undefeated in their two LEC contests last week, both in The Murray Center, defeating UMass-Dartmouth, 75-61, on Feb. 11 and Southern Maine, 77-61, on Feb. 14. RIC has now won five consecutive home conference contests for the first time in school history.

 

Senior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 23 games, starting 22 of them. He is averaging a team-high 14.2 points, while also contributing 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Alemdar poured in a season-high 25 points, along with seven rebounds and four assists in the victory over UMass-Dartmouth. In his two games last week, Alemdar averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.5 steals per contest. He now has scored in double figures in 17 of his 23 games. For his efforts last week, he was named the Little East Conference's Co-Player of the Week.

 

Freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 23 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 10.3 points and 2.3 rebounds, while contributing a team-high 82 assists and 38 steals. Williams scored 12 points and added six assists in the win over Southern Maine.

 

Junior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in 13 games, starting three of them. He is averaging 9.1 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in 23 games, starting 21 of them. He is averaging 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. In the two contests last week, Stanko averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

 

Senior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in 23 games, starting five of them. He is averaging 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. On Senior Day versus Southern Maine, Carter scored 11 points, had seven rebounds and grabbed three steals.

 

Freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield, CT) has played in 23 games, starting 20 of them. He is averaging 8.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and a team-best 1.5 blocks per game. Zalucki scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists in the win over Southern Maine.

 

Sophomore guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has played in 12 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging 5.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and a team-high 4.5 assists per game. Grandfield is currently out of action indefinitely with a wrist injury.

 

Freshman guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 23 games, starting eight of them. He is averaging 6.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

 

Freshman center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played 21 games. He is averaging 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 21 games, starting ten of them. He is averaging 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 19 games. He is averaging 2.5 points per game and 0.5 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 19 games. He is averaging 2.2 points, 2.3 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 13 blocks.

 

Sophomore forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 17 games, starting three of them. He is averaging 1.6 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in nine games. He is averaging 1.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.

 

In upcoming action, RIC will travel for two LEC games this week. First, the Anchormen take on Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m., then nationally-ranked Keene State on Saturday, Feb 21 at 3 p.m.
