Seven Rhode Island College Men's Tracksters Set
to Compete at New England Championships

Providence, RI--Seven members of the Rhode Island College men's indoor track and field team have qualified to compete at the Div. III New England Championships, which will be hosted by Bowdoin, on Saturday, Feb. 21.

 

Sophomore Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) will compete in the 800 meters and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Karngar earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events this past weekend. Karngar placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 23.27, first in the 400 meters with a time of 50.35, first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.22 and first as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 3:32.97.

 

Senior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) will compete in the 800 meters and as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Rudd earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events this past weekend. Rudd placed second in the 600 meters with a time of 1:24.52, second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:36.77 and first in both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relay with times of 3:32.97 and 8:27.78, respectively.

 

Junior Josh Precourt (Woonsocket, RI) will compete as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Precourt earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events this past weekend. He placed seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 54.18 and first as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:32.97. He also placed 12th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.47.

 

Freshman John Martinelli (North Providence, RI) will compete as part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Martinelli earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in two events this past weekend. He placed eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 54.26 and first as part of the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:32.97.

 

Junior Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) will compete in the weight throw. Piette earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing second with a distance of 49'02.75" this past weekend. Piette placed tenth in the shot at 38'04.25".

 

Sophomore Nick Palazzo (Providence, RI) will compete in the weight throw. Palazzo finished 12th in the weight throw with a distance of 42’09.50” at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 43'11.75" at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31.

 

Freshman Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) will compete in the high jump. Newman finished third in the high jump with a mark of 6’01.25” at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 7. He placed second in the high jump with an effort of 6'02.00" at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31.

 

Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine, on Saturday, Feb. 14. RIC placed second overall (ten teams) with 99.0 points, and third in the Little East (five teams) with 102.0 points. Southern Maine won the overall with 145 points and was first in the LEC with 166.0 points.
