Rhode Island College Menís Basketball Update #12

(11-14 Overall, 7-7 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Michael Kellyís team is 11-14 overall and 7-7 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen dropped their two LEC contests last week, both on the road. RIC fell to Western Connecticut, 72-69, on Feb. 17, then to 35th-ranked Keene State, 76-66, on Feb. 21. RIC has earned the Little East Tournamentsí fifth seed and will travel to Danbury, CT to face fourth-seeded Western Connecticut on Tuesday, Feb. 24. in quarterfinal action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

 

Senior guard Kamran Alemdar (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 25 games, starting 24 of them. He is averaging a team-high 14.0 points, while also contributing 3.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Alemdar scored double figures in RICís two games last week and has now scored ten or more points in all but six of the Anchormenís 25 contests.

 

Freshman guard Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) has played in 25 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 11.2 points and 2.4 rebounds, while contributing a team-high 88 assists and 41 steals. Williams poured in 24 points versus Western Connecticut and followed that performance up with a 21-point afternoon against Keene State. For his efforts last week, Williams was named LEC Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season.

 

Junior forward Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) has played in 15 games, starting three of them. He is averaging 9.0 points and a team-best 6.9 rebounds per game. Harris grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds versus Western Connecticut and a team-best nine boards against Keene State.

 

Sophomore forward Brian Stanko (Swansea, MA) has played in 25 games, starting 23 of them. He is averaging 9.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

 

Senior guard Lester Carter (Boston, MA) has played in 25 games, starting five of them. He is averaging 6.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

 

Freshman center Kevin Zalucki (Enfield, CT) has played in 25 games, starting 22 of them. He is averaging 7.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and a team-best 1.4 blocks per game.

 

Sophomore guard K.C. Grandfield (Dartmouth, MA) has returned from a wrist injury that sidelined him for 11 games. He has played in 14 games, starting 11 of them. He is averaging 4.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and a team-high 4.0 assists per game.

 

Freshman guard Kinsey Durgin (Greenwood, ME) has played in 25 games, starting ten of them. He is averaging 6.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

 

Freshman center Anthony Pierlioni (Plainville, CT) has played 21 games. He is averaging 3.9 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Kevin Payette (Woonsocket, RI) has played in 23 games, starting 12 of them. He is averaging 4.0 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. Payette scored ten points versus Keene State.

 

Freshman guard Amde Tegbaru (Stockholm, Sweden) has played in 19 games. He is averaging 2.5 points per game and 0.5 rebounds per game.

 

Freshman forward John Weir (Danbury, CT) has played in 21 games. He is averaging 2.1 points, 2.3 rebounds per game and is second on the team with 15 blocks.

 

Sophomore forward Brendan Mullen (Fairhaven, MA) has played in 17 games, starting three of them. He is averaging 1.6 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

 

Sophomore guard Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) has played in nine games. He is averaging 1.0 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.
